Chapter One
As I stared in the mirror, the thought came to the back of my mind, Who am I? What is my purpose? Who can love a person that isn’t true to themselves? Every morning, I would do my makeup and put on my fancy clothing. I was a normal girl before my father hit the lottery, and invested in the biggest stock in the world. I surrounded myself with girls who acted just like me, did the same things I did outside of school, and what they wore. I would never surround myself with the regular kids who had nothing.
Chapter Two
Going to 1st block was like a death sentence. I had first block with all of the regular kids. My teacher, Mrs. Gregkouskli was my English 2 teacher. Being in her presence was like a dog being hit by a bus, or like a cut that had lemon juice in it. She sat me by this group of kids who called themselves the “Spiff Crew”. There was 3 girls and 4 boys, Rita, Sonya, Kim, Lil Justin, D.J., Mark, and Kareem. These hoodlums bothered me faithfully. For some reason, Kareem kept staring at me and wouldn’t stop. I would pretend like I’m reading a book, just so he wouldn’t see me look in disgust! Rita called me everything except for my name. She kept forgetting the other names, so she just called me False Doll. Rita and I would go at it every day. Each day, she would tell me that I’m just the same as everybody else. I have the same skin color as her. She continued to call me False Doll, and I helpfully reminded her that my name was Immerald Gizalle Stone. Mrs. Gregkouskli sent both of us out the class. I was livid. I wanted to slap her so bad, but that would make me look like a fool so I walked away. Rita then started talking with some since. She asked me why I think that I’m better than everyone. Why do I put on this doll like image? I told her that I had no idea what she was talking about. I told Rita this lie, knowing that I was smart enough just to know what she was talking about.
Chapter Three
Weeks had pass, and what Rita told me was still lingering in the back of my mind. Unlike the rest of the kids in the tenth grade English 2 classes, Rita and I always exhibited acumen. That’s why I think that she is always taking shots at me. SHE and I think alike. For some reason we are always thinking the same thing about people and different situations. The only thing different about Rita and me is our lifestyle. I lived an unencumbered life and she had a hard life filled with many responsibilities. I wanted to end this feud with Rita, so I invited her to my house for the week. At first she said no but after a few hours of begging, she then agreed. She and I had a lot of fun. The room was silent for a few minutes. She then began to apologize for how she treated me. She and I became the best of friends.
Chapter Four
Three months had passed and I was still named False Doll. I then began to question myself. Is this who I really am? Should I go back to the person I was before all the money? Day by day I began to gather my thoughts about this situation. It was me versus me. I was battling myself. Do I want to keep putting on this rich girl act, or go back to the regular old Immerald? This was eating me up on the inside. It got to the point where I started losing my hair. I lost a lot of weight and got sick because of me wanting to change. This effected my health very badly. I was in a bad place physically and mentally.
Chapter Five
Three weeks had passed by and I regained my strength and was back to my old self. I decided to change because I was unhappy. Rita realized that I shouldn’t have changed back to my old self if it put me through that much. She said that she liked me for my bubbly personality. She began to call me by my real name from that point. She realized that she was stupid for telling me that I should change. The Spiff Crew and I became closer as the high school years went by. Everyone began to accept me for who I was.
Epilogue
You should never change who you are just to fit in or just because people aren’t nice to you. You should love yourself regardless of what people say or think. Just be you. Just because people don’t have what you have, doesn’t mean you have to distance yourself away from them. You should get to know somebody for who they really are.
