"Turn around", I screamed. They looked behind and I clicked one. It seemed so wonderful to watch Irwin and fred play all around and to have a perfect family. Life is perfect if we exclude out all the misunderstandings from. I was lucky enough to find out the truth before both of our lives destroyed.
It was a bright sunday morning, me and Irwin were hanging out at our all-time favourite place, 'The Blue Sea Cafe'. We ordered chocolate crunch icecream and talked all long. My high school had finished and I was applying for various universities, whilst Irwin was looking for jobs. "Do you like the icecream?" Irwin asked. "Well ofcourse, I love it. I love icecreams", I replied. Irwin smiled and asked, "Just the way i love you?" "No, you love me more than I love this icecream." "So what if you guys move to Bradford and you get admission there?", Irwin asked simply. "I don't know, I don't want to go. I don't want to leave you." Irwin held my hand and said: "Zoe, you're not going to leave me forever. It will be temporary. You'll complete your studies and come back." "Does that mean we'll get married after that?" I asked happily. "Yea, ofc---" "Hey guys, what's up?" Amy interrupted Irwin. Amy was Irwin's older sister and was really close to him. She knew all about mine and Irwin's relation and supported us in everything. "We were just having icecream. Come join us." Irwin replied. "No thanks, you guys have fun. I just came here to look for my friend. She told me to be here by 6.00 and it's 6.30 now." Amy said. "So Zoe, where have you have you applied? What are you gys planning to do in the future?" "Nothing much, it depends on my family. They're willing to move to Bradford." "But why Bradford?" Amy asked worriedly. "I mean you people don't have any contacts there." "Yes, but my dad wants to get settled there. Lets see." "Okay, I gotta go now. Catch you guys later. Take care." Amy said and rushed towards the door. We continued finishing our icecream. I was spending a great time.
A month had passed and my family finally decided to move to Bradford. We had started packing all our stuff and selling out the extra things. A day before we left, I called Irwin at the same Blue Sea Cafe to meet him for the last time before I left. We had endless gossips and laughter throughout the evening. The night started getting darker and cooler and it was now time to go back home. Irwin walked me home that night. He held my hand firmly and said "Zoe, look at me. You have to study hard as you do. Focus on your studies more and enjoy there. I promise you we'll get married as soon as you complete your studies." I hugged him tight and said "I trust you, Irwin." He left me at my door, kissed on my forehead and bid me farewell. I din't want hhim to go but I couldn't stop him. I kept on looking as he walked away and finally disappeared out of sight. I hurried to my room, changed my clothes and lied down on my bed. I picked up my phone and stared at mine and Irwin's picture till I had fallen asleep. Finally, it was the day to leave. We were ready to leave for airport and I wanted to see Irwin once more but I couldn't. I was in the waiting lounge when Irwin called. "Hey beautiful", he said. "Hi Irwin." "Zoe, I love you and I always will. You're mine and you'll always be, as I'm yours." Irwin said in his mesmerising voice. My heart melted and i uttered "Hmm, I Love you too. Irwin, you have to take good care of yourself and have your meals on time. Oh, and yea you're going to talk to me daily atleast for an hour." Irwin laughed "Yes sure, I will my dear. But why an hour? I'll text and disturb you all day." "Haha, you are free to do that! I'll miss you Irwin." "I'll miss you much more Zoe." "Okay, it's time for me to go. Take care. Goodbye." "You too take good care baby." Irwin said and ended the call. I went to the plane and it was ready to take off. I reached Bradford within a few hours. I was too tired that I slept as I entered my new 'already set and furnished house'. My new home was beautiful and larger than the ones I had in Doncaster.
Six months had passed and I had settled in Bradford. I got enrolled in University of Bradford and by this time Irwin had got a job in Doncaster. Everything was normal. Me and Irwin spoke daily as we had decided and I never felt that we were miles apart. I felt very lucky. Within a year, it was my older brother's wedding and I asked Irwin to come to Bradford but he told me that he was too busy with his job. The wedding soon got over and my schedule got tight. I got much more busy with my studies that me and Irin could hardly talk daily --- and soon enough we were no more in contact with each other.
Another six months passed and there was no sign of Irwin. I was worried and upset so I contacted Amy. Amy din't receive my calls, neither did she reply to my text messages. I got much more worried then and sent her an email:
Dear Amy,
I have been calling you snce last three days but you are not receiving my calls. is everything okay there? Or is there something wrong with your mobile phone? How's Irwin? I haven't been in contact with him for more than six months. I'm terribly worried! I'll anxiously be waiting for your reply.
P.S: Please ask Irwin to contact me ASAP.
With love,
Zoe.
A week passed and i din't receive Amy's email. Saturday night, I checked my inbox again and finally there was a mail from Amy. I felt relieved. I clicked on the email, but I felt even more worried and confused after I had read it. The mail said:
Dear Zoe,
I was way too busy to reply to you or call back. Everything is okay here. I thought you and Irwin spoke daily so he must have told you that he flew away to Germany due to his job purposes and will stay there for a year or so. I'll try telling him to contact you.
Sincerely,
Amy.
Amy had never been this rude to me. She din't even congratulate me on my brother's wedding, inspite the fact that she and my brother were really good friends. I wrote back to her:
Amy,
Can you please give me Irwin's contact number? I'll call him myself.
Zoe.
I waited for Amy's reply but she never replied. I felt dreadful. One more year had passed. I had given the exams of my third semester and was on vacations when my family decided to visit Doncaster to meet our relatives. I was glad that I might catch hold of Irwin. I was also afraid at the same time that Irwin might have forgotten me, because he din't contact me in all these years. But how could he possibly forget me when he promised me so much? I had fears that he might not be well. Or he be in some deep trouble. Well, whatever it was, I was going to find it out as soon as I reached Doncaster.
I reached Doncaster, met my friends and relatives but nobody from Irwin's family came to meet us. After two days of my stay in Doncaster, my brother told me that Irwin was here in Doncaster and that he was okay. The next day, I went for an evening walk in the city park. I saw Amy hanging out with her friends there. I shouted "Hey, Amy." She looked at me and stood up. She ignored me and did not reply. Instead she said goodbye to her friends and hurried outside. I ran behind her as fast I could and caught hold of her "Amy stop!" "Oh, hey Zoe. I'm surprised to see you. When did you come?" Amy gasped. "Why were you running away, Amy? What's wrong?" "Nothing at all. I have to go. I'll see you some other day." Amy said ass she ran out of breath. "No, wait. Tell me about Irwin. I want to meet Irwin." "Forget Irwin, Zoe! Forget him now. He's happily engaged." Amy screamed at me. "What? What are you saying Amy? This can't be. You are lying!" "I'm not lying. Go and live your own life. Irwin does not want to see you anymore. Don't try contacting him or any of us again. I'm warning you." Amy spoke in the most rude tone. Disappointed by this, I went back home. As I lied on my bed, I still wondered on Amy has said. I was still in a state of confusion. Irwin promised me so much, and I trusted him the most. Why wouldn't he contact me? What possibly would be stopping him from contacting me? Is there someone better in his life now? Did he fall out of love with me? All these questions kept on running into my mind and couldn't let me sleep. My heart felt heavy but somehow I couldn't cry. I felt like screaming on the top of my voice. I wanted to talk to Irwin all about it.
Two days passed, I still felt lonely and weak. I was walking past the old icecream parlour when I caught sight of a tall fair person going towards a table. At the first glance, I thought it was Irwin so I decided to take a closer look. The guy sat down on the table opposite to a blonde girl. I moved inside the parlour and yes it was Irwin. But...
But he was with a girl. A girl who wasn't me or sister or his mother. But someone else! I couldn't believe my eyes. I watched as Irwin smiled and talked to her. My heart gave a giant lurge. I thought I wouldn't be able to survive anymore. I felt dreadful. Apalled. Dejected. Disheartened. I couldn't take it anymore so I immediately left the icecream parlour and ran towards my car, which I had parked near the city park. I drove as fast as I could with tears constantly rolling down my cheeks. The only thing running in my mind was Irwin talking to that girl. I was so lost that I couldn't hear the horns and beeps of the nearby cars. Suddenly there was a Bam! I lost control and my car skidded, and then all I could hear was the loud crash of windows. Blood ran down my cheeks then instead of tears. I had lost him, I thought to myself and closed my eyes...
A day later I opened my eyes on the hospital bed. My vision was blurred and I felt much weaker. As my vision cleared, there was a blonde sitting infront of me and smiling. She was my doctor. I smiled back. "How did this happen, my dear? What were you thinking while driving? Do you remember anything", she asked. "Yes. yes I do. I remember I everything. I was thinking about Irwin - " I paused. "Irwin?" "Yes, I and Irwin loved each other..."
I continued and told her my entire story. After listening to my story, the doctor smiled again and said "Okay my dear, take your medicines and you'll be discharged by tomorrow noon. You have an appointment on next saturday. But! Not at the hospital." "Then where doctor?" "I'll see you at the Blue Sea Cafe then." Blue Sea Cafe! No I wouldn't want to go there now. So many memories are associated with it. But I have to.
It was finally saturday. I was ready to go to meet my doctor for the so-called 'appointment'. I entered the cafe and all the lights were out. "Hello?" I said as I walked inside. But there was no reply. I thought maybe I came to early so I checked my watch. But I was on time, and my doctor wasn't here. So I turned back and as I walked towards the door I heard "Wait. Turn Around." That voice. That mesmerising voice which resembled Irwin's. My heart pounded faster. I looked behind and the lights turned on. I was surprised. Shocked. Astonished. IRWIN! It was Irwin. He walked towards me and said "As I always say, not everything should be expected. Sometimes unexpected is good." I stared at him in surprise and happiness. He took out a small box out of his pocket, went down on his knees and said the most precious words. The words I was longing to hear: "Zoe Norris, will you marry me?"
How could I deny? I was so happy. I was experiencing the time of my life. "Yes Yes Yes!" I said as he made me wear that beautiful ring. He stood up and I hugged him tight. "But Irwin, Amy told me you don't want to see me again. And what about that blonde girl you were with at the icecream parlour." "Blonde? Oh, haha. That was my doctor Zoe. I had accident before you came, and I din't want you to see me unfit so I made an excuse. Come, meet my doctor." I looked and it was 'my doctor'. The same doctor treated me and Irwin. "Zoe, this is Dr. Rose and it was all her idea." Irwin said. I grinned "Thankyou doctor. This made my day." "No no. It's my pleasure", Dr. Rose said thoughtfully. Me and Irwin looked at each other and smiled. "I'm really sorry about what Amy said. She din't want us to be together." Irwin said. "Why not?" I asked curiously. "She had strong feelings for your brother and was disheartened to hear that he got married to someone else."
"Oh! But I never had a clue about it." I said. "Neither did I. Well, come now lets celebrate today by having our favourite icecream," said Irwin. "Oh yes. You are giving me a treat today as you said you will as soon as you get a job. And I'm gonna have two." I said. "Haha, sure my love." We laughed off and ordered for icecream.
