“Come on, Ashley. Don’t worry about it,” shouted Elizabeth, “Let’s go!”
“Ok, ok, I’m coming,” I shouted back weakly.
I knew I should not go out with Elizabeth into the forest to explore, but what’s the harm, my parents aren’t even going to be around the whole month. I put on my coat, went out of my house and locked the door. I turned around and looked up and down the road. Huh, no one about.
“Come on!” Elizabeth beckoned me to follow her.
Elizabeth was one tough girl, she was never scared of anything and I have never seen her cry before. I was the one who was easily scared all the time. Elizabeth is like a leader to me always taking the first step.
We made our way onto a path leading into the forest. Not knowing what was about to happen.
The forest was dark and silent. A thick, misty fog swirled around us, blocking our site within ten miles away from us. The trees were bare and gave me a cold shudder. The hoot from the owls that were perched on the trees scared me even more.
I was wondering how Elizabeth felt. Afraid that she would leave me behind, I just kept following her, saying a silent prayer praying that it will end soon.
After a few minutes, we arrived at a graveyard. A dark building with moss hanging down on it and a cross slanted on the roof that looked like it was about to fall any time, stood frighteningly.
Elizabeth stood next to me, shaking. In fact, I was shaking more than she was. I could finally see how Elizabeth felt, it was a feeling I have never seen her express before.
Suddenly, we heard the sound of foot-steps stomping on the branches that had fallen on the ground. We followed the sound and hid behind some bushes. A man of medium build stepped out of the lurking shadows, he was holding a bag slung over his shoulders and after him was a taller and bigger build man. The taller man was holding an object that had a sharp edge in his hands.
To our horror, the taller man stabbed the other man with the sharp edge object. The other man fell forward to the ground with a thud. The taller man threw the bag over his shoulders and half dragged the man to an empty spot. He picked up a shovel and started to dig the ground. When the hole was big enough, he placed the man inside and threw dirt back on top of him.
We were so shocked, we stared blankly. I don’t know how, but I snapped into my right mind and acted immediately. I slapped Elizabeth in the shoulder and she turned around with a fear look. Without talking, we ran out of the forest and went to a phone booth and called the police. We explained everything and within an hour or two, the police caught the suspect. They opened the bag and to our amazement were piles of money. It was an adventure we could never forget and the day I overcame my fear.
