Watch as the Worm Crawleth from my Nose
Born 1971, M, from Pulaski, Virgina, United States"Watch as the Worm Crawleth from my Nose"
By: Eugene Mathena
It was a cold rainy November day in the Mountains of Southwest Virginia and a family was standing at a graveside as they lowered the Casket into the ground. The November rain was beading up on Katie's coat as they laid her Uncle Albert into the cold sod. As they put the wooden box into the ground Katy whispered under her breath "I'm so sorry, Uncle Albert". She then thought back on her childhood of when she was about 12 years old and would go visit her Uncle Albert and remembered what a kind man he was and how he took an interest in her life and her school work and the little things a child would enjoy from an adult. She also remembered to herself how he looked and how he kept a distinct look from all others, his long flowing straight hair and his big blue eyes that sparkled with magic always stuck with her. The Preacher stood and said some final words on behalf of her Uncle Albert and the family turned and walked away and left Uncle Albert there to decay under that cloudy cold November day. Uncle Albert was gone and Katy only had her memories to think back on. She then thought back while driving home when her sweet Uncle Albert told her as she sat on his knee "When I die young lady I'll try to come back to see you I promise that, little girl". Katie felt a cold chill go down her spine as she thought of that moment and actually began to laugh to herself some when thinking of how a little girl would believe the impossible. She thought to herself how silly of a child she was for believing her Uncle could come back from the dead and now she was a beautiful woman and had a lifetime of memories to think back on of her Uncle.
She pulled her fine Monte Carlo into her driveway of her small comfortable Cabin and went inside. Months went by and the memories of ole Uncle Albert began to fade with time like petals fall from a bloom of a spring flower. Then one day She went back to her Uncle's grave and found how it had changed and how things seemed empty and like the world had lost someone that could never be replaced, like it had lost it's magic. She bowed her head and she began to cry and a small mist of a tear fell upon the old mans resting place. She did this for several minutes thinking on his kindness again and then she turned and went home. That night it was muggy outside and she left her bedroom window open for the sake of the cool breeze that was blowing. She got dressed into her night clothes and went to bed, knowing she had an important job interview the following day. Sometime after 3 am she awoke suddenly feeling really cold and she smelt something really foul smelling. Katy began thinking that maybe an animal had died just outside of her cabin and she sat up to go close the bedroom window and when she turned to get up she noticed her dead Uncle Albert laying there in the bed with her and he said in a rough growling voice "Hello Katy, are you glad to see me sweet pea?". Katie screamed from the top of her lungs "AWWWWWWW, Uncle Albert why are you here and how did you get here, your dead?!!" Uncle Albert then responded "I told you doll I would come back to see you". Katy screamed once again in horror and said "This can't be real.....this is not happening". Uncle albert then took his rottening finger and pulled his nose nostril open and said "Katy my love, watch as the worm crawleth from my nose" and then the maggot looking beast crawled from his nose and dropped into the bed and wiggled frantically as though it was starving for flesh and then squirmed toward Katy.
Katy jumped up and began to run and Uncle Albert pursued her still in his death clothes and running stiff as a board. Growling roughly "Come here Katy and get on my knee and let me bounce you around like we did when you were still just a girl". Katy replied "But I'm not that little girl anymore Uncle Albert and something just wouldn't seem right, me bouncing on a dead guys knee right now, get out of my house you rotten cabbage smelling thing". Uncle Albert chased her outside into her yard and then back into her house again and all around through the house as well. Uncle albert was in a panting mess, stopping and catching his breath after every few minutes with various worms and death bugs falling from him. "Katy!!!" said Uncle Albert. Katy screamed "What do you want from me Uncle?" Uncle Albert replied "I have come to take you with me to my old cold hole in the dirt!" Katy Yelled "Noooo" and then Uncle Albert ripped his left arm off and threw it at her and the hand of the arm capped her mouth shut so she couldn't scream.
She tore the arm from her mouth and began beating Uncle Albert over his decayed skull with his own arm until he had no more strength in him to crawl after her. She then took her 12 Gauge shotgun she kept in her gun cabinet and blasted his already embalmed skull into a pile of goo and dragged his corpse and put it in the trunk of her car and drove it back to the grave yard and slammed it into the grave it came out of. She then drove wildly back home and poured herself a drink of Brandy and got drunk while thinking on what just had happened. She woke up the next morning and seeing she was cutting it close for her job interview she hurried and got dressed and ran out to her car and started it and began to drive to the location. She noticed how beautiful things looked that day and how the trees and flowers had bloomed out so fast that year and how the birds were having a field day all to themselves out in the rugged Virginia mountains. While driving she looked into her rearview mirror and seeing her Uncle Albert in her backseat, she screamed "NOOOOOOOOOOO" and Uncle Albert said "Hello Katy!!" The End
