He opened his eyes, and what felt like a wall of pain slammed against his head. He winced, and instinctively his hands went to touch the area where the pain had occurred. His right hand moved, as he had intended, and found a wet, tacky portion of his skull, where the pain definitely intensified when touched.
His left hand, however, could not comply. It met resistance when he tried to move it, and when he made the excruciating effort to look down, through eyes that could barely focus, he noticed that his wrist was bound, and attached to something that seemed immovable.
“What the fu…” he said, trying in vain to wrench it free. His hand had been tethered to something on the floor – some kind of metal hoop – and he could only bring it up as far as his abdomen. He had been lying on his other arm, so that didn't fare much better.
He was in agony all over, he realised. His eyes hurt from the light, his head was pounding, and his body felt like it had suffered some kind of major trauma. He was thirstier than he had ever been in his life.
Where the hell was he? His mind was fuzzy. His eyes were still trying to adjust to the surroundings, but he felt sure this was not a place he'd ever been to or seen before.
What was going on?
He heard a door open to the left of him, and instinctively turned to look, hoping desperately that someone had come to rescue him from this nightmare. The movement caused a jolt of pain to fire through his head again, and he gave out a squeal of agony.
“Ah, you’re awake,” he heard a female voice say. He didn't recognise it.
A woman appeared before him, and sat on a chair which he now noticed, to his right.
“Wha…” He went to speak, but his mouth was so parched he couldn't manage it the first time.
“What the hell is going on?” He asked. “Where am I?”
The woman smiled, and leant forward, to meet his eye line.
“You're in my world now,” she said, icily. “Welcome.”
