Did You Know That?
by Arnav Sreenivasan, Executive Reporter (E.R)
Welcome to “Did You Know That?”
There are many poisons in our world. Some are very deadly. Here are the 3 deadliest poisons.
#1 Botulinum Toxin: Botulinum is the deadliest poison known to humans. When human beings comes in contact with this poison, in a fraction of a second the nerve system gets shut down completely and the victim will die immediately with a lot of pain. One teaspoon of this poison can kill at least millions of people.
#2 VX: VX is the most dangerous nerve gas. It was first used as a pesticide until it was banned by the government because it was really dangerous to humans. A single drop of VX on the human skin can be fatal. During the World Wars VX caught the government's eye and soon they started using VX in the world wars.
#3 Ricin: Ricin is a natural occurring poison that is extracted from castor oil seeds. A few salt sized grains of ricin can cause death. It can get into your system by inhalation, ingestion, and injection. It is the least dangerous through ingestion. It works by blocking your body's ability to make protein. As a result, your body goes into shock, and you die.

From the Editor’s Desk: Out of this World
By Rishab Jain, Editor in Chief (E.I.C)
“ Humanity is now facing many serious threats,” says renowned scientist Stephen Hawking. These range from global warming to the rise of artificial intelligence. Remaining on Earth any longer than that would be too dangerous, he believes. It would place humans at great risk of encountering another extinction, like the one that wiped out the dinosaurs millions of years ago.
He says that humanity has a deadline for finding another planet to live on: “ We have about 1,000 years,” he says. Remaining on earth will be too dangerous as there is many problems and disasters that could occur. Humans will continue to expend resources such as fuels, water and fertile land.
Stephen Hawking suggests we must move to another planet. Researchers have so far discovered more than 4,600 planets that appear to be like Earth. Each planet orbits a star that is kind of like our sun, and could possibly have water. The first Earth-like planet was not discovered until 1995. Today, NASA says, “ We have almost found something people have dreamt about for thousands of years," — a new home out in the stars.
