Once upon a time, there was a boy named Randy whose dream was nothing more than to be as humble and as successful as he can, owning multimillion businesses', be a well know individual with the influence in the market in which he will operate. Having a family of his own that he will love and share all of his luxury and operational time with, playing and laughing together as if each day could be the last on earth.
He grew from a small town in lawrencia vale that was mostly assumed to be a place where farmers could be found. There was no other great job that was considered the best other than for you to grow up and serve in the farming operations, nothing more and nothing less than that.As a young boy, he saw this as being routine and kind of felt that his life was already decided for him and he was afforded no part in that decision, which appeared to have been already made by generations of this community. This worried him every day. Being a young boy only aged 17 years at that time meant that he was soon going to join his father and brothers in this job not very long from now.it was expected that after finishing school you were equipped enough to write your name your identity number and that is all you needed to know nothing more. Which is why the majority of his community members have no schooling exceeding a grade 1 attempt.
This was a culture in this small town .almost everyone knew everyone in that they observed one another. Keeping trail of who is soon to join them and carry the duty of the town of serving at home in the best interest of the community.Randy looked for ways, inches he can escape the predicament beforehand.so he would sit under the shades which the old tree provided. It blossomed every summer and yielded enormous amounts of apples that were then sold to a nearby market at a very cheap price. As he sat from the shades he thought long enough and decided that if he can excel at school considering that he was to do his matric then, he might find a way to escape and go to college and study law and business as he had dreamed of this profession after seeing a show on the television which was mostly powered by the generator at home.
This meant more than just dreaming, so he reckoned that he had to make drastic changes, which meant his grades needed to uplift from being a mediocre student to being an Exceptional student. He then decided, despite knowing the distance to school was about 15 km and normally walked barefooted with no cars normally utilised in their small town except those that often came only once or twice a day, meant that he had more to put in the plate. So he decided that he will now come very late at home and utilise most of the time on books, which meant less time at home, he would also wake up very early in the morning studying through a candle to get through what he could not cover at school.
It was a great plan and surely as a young boy thought he will get all the necessary support from his parents.Only his mother saw the potential in him, while the rest of family thoughts he was a book worm and a lazy boy who will not be man enough to lead his house.Often he was insulted by his brothers and other boys in his town. His father stood and did nothing even when he was brutally attacked and called ‘’smelly’’ as he had an awful smell that was caused by his skin disease, all that his father would say was’ ’’son that is life learn to stand firm and face your manhood rather than your mere stupid books, why do you have to study too much anyway. I just don’t get why! you’re such a disappointment’’, he says. Randy being a young boy at home and in the community, it meant one thing, keep shut, and respect your elders no matter what. Had he raised his head he would be bitten by all the elder parent. Being disrespectful was considered taboo and thus not allowed.
He remained firm and carried on with his dream journey and sometimes he would hide in the music room at school and sleep there with the sole purpose of becoming the best of the best.It did pay off, though, as soon after he implemented the strategy he started to be recognised as a top student during the test written in the first quarter of the year. The teachers were surprised as well but Mr Harry Parsons was not surprised as he had seen potential from this boy, he even made himself available to answer any quires that Randy could have regarding mathematics and accounting sciences.Being the head of the department of accounting science he had the capability to improve Randy even further. He did utilise this opportunity and ensured his success.
It is, however, bothersome as he had no one’s support at home except his scared mother, who wouldn’t wish to be on the bad side of the community practice that is acceptable. She did try in the dark to show support to her boy although it was not enough as his success was celebrated by them only in the dungeon where they normally place old scrap material.
Sometimes it’s not what made you stumble that ensures failure but it’s when you actually stopped at that hurdle and failure is imminent assured. Randy pass rate when the result was released of the final exam shocked everyone at school as he had aced all his subject with mathematics and accountancy being the top of the notch standing at 98% , the bare minimum he got was a 95% on economy studies. When his father saw this, he did not actually see what is the purpose of having good numbers on paper yield” he says’’, these number does not ensure anything, they will not give you a wife nor will they give you a house or intelligence they just mean you are good at being a worm that feeds sitting on a desk.’’
Randy stood tall and looked at his father disappointed yet he remained positive that maybe life could be better. Mr harry on receiving the results didn’t hesitate but decided to drive all the way from the Best Montel City which was a 100 km away from lawrencia vale just to give light to this boy who had a future ahead. Upon arrival, he had brought along in his capacity enough money that would have ensured that Randy does go to varsity and continue to excel as he believed staying home would rest his brain. His father felt challenged by the arrival of the man he never knew, felt this man was telling him how to raise his kids. He was not very fond of accepting money from other people as he thought it made him look bad and not able to provide for his family. However, in goodwill, he accepted the offer on the table but made comments that he would need time to speak to the boy at night. Without further waste of time, Parsons left a letter of acceptance for studies of randy in Rahamsford College as he departed.
Randy’s father stared at him with anger and disappointment, as he left the room slammed the door. This could only mean one thing, there was no college for Randy. After a short while His father returned carrying a belt and as he walked, fiercely he started to hit Randy her mother soon stepped in front and stood tall and broke the rule of the community that you may not stand tall in your man’s presence. She uttered too many words but one she made that impacted, she says “If you love me you will let my son go and study, fulfil his heart, if you married me because you wanted a partner, now is the time to show partner to me, if you don’t and decide to bit my son and chase him away, I will leave with him”, as she covers her son and hugs him.”I love you, my boy”. A true touch of mother’s love, protecting her nest and loved ones.Suddenly, his hands lost power and he dropped his belt sat on the chair and shook his head and said’’ so be it’’!! No one understood what he meant .was he saying leave my house or fine carry on go and study? No one really knew.
As they stood up went on to their rooms started packing, his father came surprised and now his eyes was shiny and he started to cry, I love you so much my dear, I cannot afford to lose you, nor can I bear losing my boy as well.If he really, really wishes this for himself, I am granting him full permission, he can go do whatever that is he desires
