Friends turn to bullies, made me stronger
Born 2002, F, from Kuala Lumpur, MalaysiaStory
Sadly, my grandfather passed away. Say goodbye to city life. I had to move in with my parents, which is far away from the city, a small town area where there are not even a single mall or cinema, nothing. I was glad at least I do not have to say goodbye to my friends because we are all going to different high schools.
Yes, final exams ended and I can't wait to get out from here. I was not really impressed with my new high school, people here apparently do not understand or speak English, which is my main language. They only speak Chinese language and I only understand the basics of Chinese. However, I picked up the language fast. I started to learn how to speak more fluent every time and even learnt how to write because I have a secret crush on a boy and wanted to send him a letter. I started to text him on the phone everyday in Chinese words to communicate with him and ever since we became more than just friends. Life in a new, strange and small place is not that bad after all!
Just as I thought things would get better, one day I had a sleepover at one of my girlfriend's house. Early in the morning I went out by myself to get breakfast. I did not want to wake the girls up and did not bring my phone thinking it was only just a quick breakfast, four blocks away. After I finished and went back, my friends were yelling, “Where were you? Your mum just came and scolded all of us because she thinks that we lied to her that you did not sleepover here at all!”. I apologized and went home, explaining everything to my mum.
Ever since that incident, my friends never treated me the same again. They even tell others what happened and now it feels like the world is mad at me. The worst part is one week later my boyfriend broke up with me. It turns out to be he is seeing someone else. My friends turned against me and bullied me. My lunch pack was squashed with them sitting on my bag, they laughed at my new haircut, I was really emotional and lonely. I reported them to the principal and their hatred towards me grew more. I never attend classes, hide myself away from people, up to the highest stairs alone just to escape from them. My report card had bad records with my absence.
One day I was playing with a boy from another class, the principal was checking up on me. She called me to the office and with fierce expression, she told me that she knows the reason behind my bullying, because of my intimate behavior towards boys. It did not make any sense. I went home and cried. My parents then transferred me to another school.
First day being at a new school doesn't seem too friendly. I guess because it's a small town, little news spreads everywhere. I met new friends, they were friendly, unfortunately not my class teacher, her first impression of me seems bad, she looks at me like a hawk with sharp eyes and watches my every move. I went to the bathroom, she even warns me about my bad report at my previous school. Oh great! More miserable treatment on my first day.
Besides that, everything went well, new friends is what I needed the most. They bring me joy, kill my feelings of loneliness and make me feel wanted and free again. Someone who just wants to have a normal high school life.
A year passed, I met one of the girls who bullied me, we were in the same class of outside tuition, she came and talked to me. I was surprised. She apologized for what she did to me and told me that she is now being bullied by the same girls who were once her friends.
Everyone has their own experience and teaches us a lesson. As we grow, we either experience the same thing that other people did or not. I understand the difficulty of past, and I would never treat people bad. I forgave her and just moved on. That is how I keep going and leave the past behind.
