"Breath. It's just like you practiced." I mummured to myself. Swallowing hard, I walked up to Logan.
"Hey." I cheerfully called. Logan turned from his friend Andrew.
"Hi." he grinned. I felt my face getting hot and thanked the universe for making me oblivious to blushing.
"Can I talk to you?" I asked. Even though I tried to act normal, my question sounded awkward and urgent. Logan quizzically studied my expression before replying.
"Yeah, sure. Later, Andrew." Andrew waved bye and strut away to another friend. Logan and I walked to a large, bush-like tree that provided little camouflage.
"What's up?" he calmly asked. I gulped, and nervously pushed my hair behind my ears.
"I... I like you." I stuttered. My inner voice screamed 'No! You forgot the classy grin and Bambi eyes!' Logan looked like I had slapped him. Then he laughed.
"What? Are you joking? You can't be serious? Wow... Really?" I almost fell over. His reaction was the last thing I had prepared for. Suddenly my friend Amber came from the other side of the bush.
Good job! You did the dare!" she cheered. I stared at her in shock. 'What?' I thought.
"What dare?" Logan asked her.
"The dare to lie and tell someone you like them. I dared her myself." she replied smoothly. I nodded my head, trying to hide the pain I felt inside.
"OOH ok. That makes sense. Later." he sighed with relief. As soon as he left I fell to my knees. Amber bent over and hugged my shoulders.
"I'm so sorry." she whispered. I had never cried at school, but this hurt to the point of breaking down. Not only had he not liked me, but he thought I was joking. I wiped my now red eyes and put on my hoodie.
"It's fine." I darkly muttered.
"But..." she began.
"No, I'm fine." I interupted and briskly left. That night I text Logan.
'Hey Logan. I just wanted you to know that it wasn't just a dare. I actually do like you, but I'm fine just being friends.' The next day, I asked him if he got my text.
"Not just a dare." he growled and stormed off, leaving me heartbroken and alone.
