The morning sun shined through the kitchen window, radiating warmth into the window. A group of sparrows chirped a melody together. The fresh air flowed in the house. Muggy loved this kind of morning. He called it a fresh good start.
Muggy the cup lived in Sally Woodman’s house. He was a teacup, particularly small for his kind. Muggy was painted with tiny blue dots and made with a fragile handle. Despite his size, he was also the bravest of the cups. All Muggy wanted was to encounter the world.
“Don’t you think it’s boring staying in the cabinet all day, sitting in the back?” Muggy told his mom. “We rarely even get taken out of the cabinet.”
“One day, you will get to experience the world.” Muggy’s mom always replied. He never got picked out of the cabinet.
Today, the Woodmans were quite busy. “GET YOUR SHOES ON, YOUNG MISS!” Sally’s father growled. “WE’RE GONNA BE LATE TO LAURA’S PARTY!” Sally took her sneakers and coat, heading out the door. Suddenly, Sally stopped at the front door. “What about Laura’s birthday present?”
“Oh my, I completely forgot about it!” Sally’s mom shouted. She started to flip through the cabinets, trying to find something for a present. Quickly, Sally’s mom opened the cup’s cabinet. Looking all around, her eyes suddenly lit up. “Yeah! This would be the perfect gift for Laura.”
All the cups started to wiggle. Who would get picked? Who would leave the Woodman’s house? Sally’s mom pushed her hand over to the back row of the cabinet. Muggy held tight to his mom. Her hand went over to the left corner. Muggy stood at the corner, glancing everywhere. He fixed his eyes at the dining table. “Muggy...don’t use one of your wacky ideas…” Muggy’s mom whispered.
“I’m going to be fine.” Muggy said back with shining eyes. Suddenly, Muggy jumped out of the cabinet, spinned like a figure skating champion, and landed on the dining table. Sally’s mom slowly turned her head. Muggy started to hyperventilate. What would Sally’s mom do? He had to say something, but his lips were quivering. Muggy started to shiver. He looked at a minions poster hanging on the wall. Suddenly, he blurted out: “Banana.”
“AHHH! THE CUP TALKS!! Quickly, throw him away!!!” Sally’s mom hurled Muggy out of the window. Muggy’s mom shed some tears. “Will he be fine?” Muggy’s mom whimpered…

“I’M GOING TO CRASH!” Muggy crashed onto a trampoline, bouncing him onto a toy rocket. Muggy rocketed up into the sky, dropping down. “So long!” Muggy screamed, tightly closing his eyes. Then, he landed into...a sink.
Muggy got hurled into a bunch of dishes. “Watch it!” A granny mug shouted. “This is the kitchen, not the carnival!!!” Muggy quickly made his way outside the kitchen, into a shop. He ran to the counter, trying to get the clerk’s attention. “Excuse me, where am I?” Muggy asked the man.
“You are at Starbucks. I’m Johnny. Who are you?”
“My name is Muggy. Nice to meet you.” Muggy replied. Suddenly, a thought struck him: He is in...A COFFEE SHOP? If he is in the coffee shop, he must’ve got blasted out of the neighborhood. Then, why is the place crowded with so many people? He was in...THE CITY?! He looked around the shop. There were so many people, so many machines, and so many types of cups and coffee! Something caught his eye: A poster. It said:
Starbucks Hiring!!
Hiring new workers! Come inside to get a spot and time slot!
“Excuse me, sir.” Muggy said. “May I be a worker at Starbucks?” Johnny stared at him with awe. “A tiny teacup...could be an employee of Starbucks? You are CRAZY. I didn’t even know a cup could talk!”
“Cups are more than you think they are.” Muggy protested. “I could help in the shop...at least let me do something!”
Johnny picked Muggy up. “How about I assign you the job as…”
Muggy’s face lit up. His smile slowly turned into a grin. His dream was about to come true: To experience the outside world.
Johnny looked around the shop. He stopped at the shelfs. “You will be assigned as a crew member of the shelf display.”
Muggy looked at him. “I want to work in the shop, not stand on the shelf doing nothing!”
“You will be displaying yourself to the customers. You won’t be doing nothing.” He grinned.
Johnny had a point. Sighing, Muggy went to the shelf. “I can do more than this…” Muggy murmured to himself.
Suddenly, a little girl came sprinting into the shop. “I want a cup for my daddy!” she shouted.
Johnny came over to the little girl. “Is this some kind of special gift?”
“My daddy is going away. I want to give him a cup for Father’s Day. He can enjoy his coffee.” She held a five dollar bill. “Is this enough?”
“Sorry, miss. Our cheapest cups are at least 20 dollars. You will have to buy something else. How about a little bag of cookies? They just came straight from the oven!”
“But...I want a cup! My daddy is leaving in 1 hour. Can you please give me a cup?”
Muggy jumped off the shelf. “ME! ME! I’m free!!!!!”
“You…” Johnny growled. ‘STAY UP ON THE SHELF FOR DISPLAY!!!”
“I hope I can be this little girl’s present for her father,” Muggy said. Wrap me up, and be quick.”
Muggy left the shop with the little girl. She whispered to Muggy: “Thank you. My daddy will be happy.”
A car drove over to the sidewalk. The little girl hopped in, and slowly drove away…

Sometime later…
Johnny was working in the shop, when the TV broadcasted the treaty signing between the United States and the England. The Queen signed the paper. “The treaty is complete.”
Then, the TV broadcasted the ambassador of the United States having a toast with the Queen of England. The ambassador held a tiny little cup. The cup winked at the camera.
“Hi Johnny.” he whispered. “Be sure to remember me!”
Johnny looked at the TV in shock, as a smile appeared on his face.
“Bon voyage, little friend.” Johnny whispered back.
