Sera and the Mythicals
Born 1999, F, from -, IndiaSera and the Mythicals.
Humans; stupid beings without proper brains, Sera thought as she pushed herself through a crowd of teenagers looking at their phones and texting.
A busy day in the city was what she hated most. She hated the way people stared at her when she walked without shoes. She liked to walk like that. She liked to feel the earth between her little toes.
Her white frock had patches of mud in it. But she didn’t care about it, she liked it.
She skidded through the streets like a free bird ignoring peoples yelling.
Sera liked to be in Mystica, her home. It was a magical world where humans with special powers lived.
It was a place filled with trees and animals. But she knew that she never could go there again.
Sera was on her way to Jason’s house. He had asked her to meet him there. Sera knew it was dangerous to wander off alone, but she lived alone anyway. After about another five minutes she managed to find Jason’s house. She knocked on the door.
Mrs. Jameson opened the door; she smiled widely as she saw her. “Hello there, you must be Sera.”She said politely.
“Um…hi. Is Jason home?” She asked peeping in.
“Yes, he’s up stairs.”
Without asking anything else, she ran up the stairs.
“What a strange girl.” Mrs. Jameson muttered to herself.
“Jason!” Sera cried as she ran past a bedroom.
“I’m over here…” Jason answered from the room at the corner.
“What are you doing? She asked peeping in. Sera was not like other girls. She was not shy or timid. She liked to ask questions all the time.
“Collecting a new report about a weird forest.” Jason said looking at his computer screen. Jason was a computer geek. It made Sera go nuts because she hated computer geeks. But there was something different about Jason; he had a weird curiosity towards myths and other stuff which was a bit weird for a kid his age.
“So… you are saying you could find about a forest in your computer thingy?” Sera asked as she sat on the chair next to him.
Jason laughed. “Of course, the internet gives you info about anything. You know about the internet, right?”
Sera laughed weakly. “Uh…kind of.”
“Kind of? Sera are you living in the Stone Age.” He said looking at her. “You really are a weird girl.”
“No, I am not. Anyway why did you want to see me?”
“To show this.” Jason said searching for something in his pocket.
He pulled out a folded piece of paper, and then he unfolded it. “Look.” he said giving it to her.
“An Amarok!” Sera cried.
“I thought you knew that one, you know too much about these.” Jason exclaimed.
“How did you get this photograph?” She asked in hurry. Her dark eyes looked wild.
“Yesterday I was walking home after my piano lessons; I had my camera with me. As I was passing a huge tree, I saw a shadowy creature. Without thinking twice, I took a picture.”
Sera was barely listening to him, she was staring the picture.
“Jason… I want to tell you something.” She said handing back the photo.
Jason looked at her and yawned. "Is it something boring?”
“No, it’s something that I haven’t told anyone.”
“Ok Sera what’s the big secret?”
“I’m from another world.” Sera said quickly.
Jason stared at her for a while, and then laughed aloud. “From another world? Good one Sera!”
Sera’s face grew red. “I’m serious about this Jason!”
“Do you have proof?” Jason asked as he tried to stop his laugh.
Sera raised her hand, at once a cold wind blew across the room. “Do you believe me?”
Jason crossed his hands. “It was just a small wind; you just raised your hand when it happened.”
“Ugh…” Sera said as she raised both her hands; a huge wind blew across the room; a few books on the table fell down.
As the wind died away, Sera grinned at her friend. “Do you believe me now?”
Jason looked shocked for a while. Then he sputtered, “How…how…”
“Jason I’m not supposed to do that. But I really needed to convince you to help me. Something bad is going to happen to your world. Are you even listening?”
Jason blinked. “How did you control the wind…”
“Look I thought I could trust you on this,”
Jason scratched his curly brown hair. “I’m sorry, it’s just too mysterious.”
“We don’t have much time. The mythicals found your world.”
“The what?”
“The mythicals; they are very dangerous creatures from a distant world. When they get fed up with their own world they invade other worlds.” Sera explained.
“So…”
“When they do so, they destroy all living beings in that world.”
“Oh.” Jason said in a simple tone. “You are nuts Sera.”
“No I’m not! I lost my own world because of them!” She said in a looking hurt.
“What is your planet?”
“Mystica.” She answered in a small voice.
Jason stood up from his chair. “This is really hard to believe… but Sera I believe you.”
“Thanks Jason. I just want to save your planet. I don’t want it to end up like mine.”
“There’s Just one question. How did you survive?”
She remained silent for a while, and then she spoke up. “My dad sacrificed his life to save me and mum. Thanks to him…” tears ran down her pink cheeks. “We managed to reach the portal…”
“Then what happened?” Jason asked softly.
“Then…they caught us.” She said wiping her tears. “Before I could do anything my mother pushed me into the portal. But I did hear her last words. She told me to stop these creatures from doing this to another world.”
“What happened to the portal?”
“My mother was clever enough to shut it down.”
“I’m sorry,” Jason said looking upset. “I shouldn’t have forced you to tell that story.”
“That’s ok. Ever since I got here, I lived alone. You were my only friend.” She said.
“Sera, let’s stop these creatures.” Jason said in an encouraging tone.
“Ok. But how?”
“I thought you had a plan.”
Sera looked around the room, “Well, you are a major computer geek.”
Jason shrugged, “Yeah, so?”
“Can you find the new portal?”
Jason looked frustrated. “I don’t think that’s possible Sera.”
Sera crossed her arms. “You found a lot of weird things using your tech, so can’t you find the portal. It has to be close to here.”
“Sera, I think we won’t need tech to find it!” Jason shouted.
Sera looked surprised. “What are you talking about?”
Jason looked wild. ‘I forgot to tell you something! That day when I took the picture, I saw a small flickering light from a huge oak tree nearby. I thought t was just lightning…”
“It is the portal!” Sera interrupted. “It always gives out a flickering light.”
“We have to shut it down!”
Sera looked disappointed. “This is stupid, they’ll just build another. What was I thinking?”
Jason gave an encouraging look. “Sera your parent’s didn’t think like that when they saved you, your mother loosed her chance of escaping to close one portal. They had determination.”
Sera’s face brightened up. “I never thought to hear such a marvelous idea from a computer geek.” She smiled.
“What if we close down the whole system?” Jason asked.
Sera shrugged. “That might work.”
“Here” He said handing her a small device. “Keep this near the portal. Stay there until I come.”
She nodded. “We don’t have much time.”
She ran as fast as she could, the memories of her world flowed into her mind, she remembered how her friends were killed by the mythicals, she remembered the ugly creatures with bloody eyes.
‘I will save this world.’ she promised herself.
She mange dot find the huge oak tree Jason described.
A bright light was flickering from it.
“It’s working, this is bad.” Sera muttered. She took out the small device which Jason gave her; it looked like a small metal box with weird numbers.
“I hope this works.” She told as she placed the small thing near the portal.
Nothing happened.
Sera waited, she waited for more than half an hour. The sound of heavy footsteps startled her.
She turned around and saw Jason; he was sweaty and puffing, “Sorry I got late because…”
The flickering light turned brighter and brighter,
“Oh no!” Sera moaned.
Jason pulled out a device from his backpack. “Come on! Help me!”
She ran to help him, but a big hand prevented her from reaching him.
“So it was you two who was blocking my portal!” The owner of the hand bellowed.
A huge muscular red monster with one eye came out of the portal; he was bigger than an elephant.
He trapped Sera in his beefy arms. She looked like a helpless bird.
“Let her go!” Jason shouted. “I was the one who blocked your portal. I made a device to stop it!”
The monster laughed as he squeezed Sera; she winced with pain.
“But she is the little brat who warned you!”
Jason looked at the device in his hands, it was eighty percent charged. He needed more time.
“Make my portal work, or I’ll kill the girl!” The monster bellowed.
“If it’s not working how did you come here?” Jason asked casually.
“I used my power; I am the king of the mythicals!”
“Interesting...” Jason replied.
“What are you doing?” Sera croaked
“I will make another portal!” the monster bellowed. “I was just going to spare your life.”
“I don’t know…” Jason said scorching his head. “Will you really spare me if I help you?”
Sera looked bewildered. Her only hope was going to vanish away.
“Of course boy.” The monster replied. “I will spare this little girl too.”
Jason shook his head. “I really don’t care about her or her world.”
“You…you…” Sera tried to speak, but the grip was too tight.
“Soon my army will invade this planet. You could be a commander my boy.” The mythical king said humbly.
Jason took a step forward. “I like the idea, just give me a minute to unlock the portal.”
“Very well.” the monster said as he looked at Sera in a menacing way. “You thought a human would help you? What a stupid idea.” He tightened his grip, Sera tried to use her powers; but the grip was too tight, she was losing herself. Her sight was getting blurry.
“Say goodbye to your dear little life little girl and remember that normal humans would always bent to the winning side.” He whispered sarcastically.
“Um…monster! You are kind of wrong!” Jason shouted as he aimed the device towards the portal.
“No!” the monster shouted as he ran to stop him. During that, Sera manage to break free.
Jason pressed the button, the portal exploded to bits. The monster vanished as well.
“Sera are you ok?” Jason ran to help her up.
She nodded. “My bones ache, but I’m fine.”
Jason grinned. “I did it! I destroyed all the portals!”
“How did you do it?”
“It’s simple Sera,” Jason began. “I blocked all their tech using a single laptop, they’ll never invade planets again.”
Sera smiled. “Sorry I doubted you.”
Jason shrugged. “I kind of doubted myself.”
“But what about those creatures who are already here?”
Jason grinned. “Without an army and a powerful king they are just myths.”
Sera sighed with relief. “So it’s over, I fulfilled my promise!”
Jason nodded. “Come on weird girl; let’s have a nice cup of tea.”
“OK computer geek!” She replied in a happy way.
Sera lived in the normal human world. Jason’s mother was really happy to have her in the family, so she got a new family and new friends.
The mythicals never got a chance to invade other worlds ever again.
