Ever worked in a Sweat Shop?
Back in 1964, after taking a power sewing machine class at Weber, I got a job at Sierra Lingerie, located on 12th Street, not far from IRS. I worked on several different power sewing machines, ending up on the Bottom Elastic and Gusset Liine. Yes, I was making women's panties.
After a night of dancing at the Hitching Post, or Marylou”s, I'd come in to work that morning. Sometimes with a slight hangover. The boss would turn on the machines, and my head would feel like an explosion was taking place. Oh, the joy of being on the damn pantie line. Then, the boss, a large framed man, over six foot, would begin inspecting the panties. He would stand in front of my machine and hold up one, measuring the legs and crotch of the panties, and it was all I could do, to keep a straight face. After he left of course I lost it, almost falling off my chair with laughter. I had never seen a man inspect ladies underwear, especially with so much intensity, and seriousness. If we talked too loud, he would open his office door and literally yell at us to shut up. He treated us more like children who were suppose to be abused. Well his actions toward us made me want to rebel. So, since my machine would sew and cut at the same time, I really made some skinny crotches that day. I told my friend who sat next to me, they were for all the skinny bitches. Very soon after that I passed the government test for IRS...Yea.....
