A Truly Sweet Dream
Born 2004, F, from Portland, Oregon, United StatesI walked and I walked through my neighborhood. Suddenly, I stepped onto a mud puddle and the ground gave way, leading me down… down… and down……
As I slowly woke up, I found myself in a magical mystery land. I took in everything around me; the creatures, the mountains, the lakes, the clouds and lots more. Sure they were all beautiful, but what made them special was the fact that everything was made out of sugar! Sugar, sugar, and more sugar! The mountains were replaced by enormous candycorns, the trees were made up of swirly lollipops. Off to the side was a humongous chocolate waterfall rushing down the side of Mt. Candy Corn creating huge clouds of cocoa powder. Across the chocolate river stood a life sized Hershey bar bridge! And so, I decided to explore this new world and take a stroll off the caramel patched road.
As I walked, I saw birds chirping and chocolate frogs hopping from one Skittle rock to another. Here the grass was green, the wind blew gently. Here there were no worries, no sadness. Here lived the wonderful land of the Sweet’s Kingdom.
Soon I found a nice green patch of licorice grass. I layed down and decided to take in the view above me. As I looked up, I saw lots and lots of poofy cotton candy clouds, floating in the sky. Each cloud was different and unique. Each contained its own color and flavor. I noticed one that looked very much like a pig in a swimming suit! It flew over the mountains, over the rivers and soon disappeared from my sight. Suddenly I noticed little specks of white flying down from above. Some fell into my mouth. Sweet… tastes like powdered sugar… And indeed it was. Thousands of sugar particles fell from the sky like snow. It covered the land in a sheet of white. And in no time, the Sweet’s Kingdom was transformed into a magical winter wonderland.
I walked through the fields of sugar and made my way under a bridge for cover. As the sweet scent of sugar filled my nose, I soon fell into deep slumber…
When I awoke I looked into the sky and found that the snow had stopped falling and the night had engulfed the land of sweets. The warm wind whistled gently through the night. Frogs croaked and crickets chirped in the forest. A peaceful quiet settled on the Sweet’s Kingdom like a warm blanket on sleeping child. I looked up and stars filled the night sky. They shone bright like lamps lightening up a dark room. Not only did the stars glisten in the air, so did the full moon. It shared the sky with the stars working together to guard the Sweet’s Kingdom all through the night.
I walked and I walked through the peaceful quiet and made my way back onto the caramel brick road. I stepped into a chocolate puddle and suddenly, the ground cracked in two and I fell lower and lower and lower…
Oww! I had woken up in my bed, sat up and bumped my head on my bedside lamp! Soon it came to my realization that everything I had experienced in the Sweet’s Kingdom was all just a dream. It made me feel so sad that everything I saw was all made up in my mind. Although the candy corn mountains, the chocolate river and the caramel brick road were all gone gone by now, I could still smell the heavenly sweet scent of sugar and hear the echo of crickets as they chirped through the night.
