Living outside Water, in Water?
Born 1980, M, from Harare, ZimbabweIn his mother’s womb, it was all around him like a blanket. He was swimming in it, and it was in him. Yes, for nine months, it was all around him. And for nine months, it was in him! Yet he thrived and never was he choked by it till birth. How mysterious!!
When he was born, he was born into it. Joining his mother in partaking of the fresh breath of air containing it. In his mother’s breast milk it was in sufficient quantities for his well-being. With introduction of solid foods he was still in it, but his inside demanded more of it. His desire for it coming from his inside was unstoppable and irreplaceable, not even by tasty juices. He was breathing it in and breathing it out, yet more of it was required to quench the fire.
As a grown man, he joined those that dug the earth for it, in it. From deep beneath the earth, he extracted it and there it was running through his manmade pipes. With each meter of sweaty digging, he lost some of it, while in it. Losing some of it, to get more of it! His dedication and perseverance turned him into a master miner! Mining for this mysterious mineral! A mineral that the world cannot afford to do without. Digging for this precious mineral, he did, in it. How mysterious!!!
What he dug from under the earth, he could pour into a cup, and he could see it flowing through his pipes. What was all around him, he could not even touch it! Through his sweat, he lost some of it from him, in it. The earth around him joined him in losing it, into it too.
From rivers, dams, lakes and oceans, it evaporated. From grasses, shrubs, lawns and trees, it transpired. Yet it all gathered in the heavens, in it! In a few days, it poured down. So much rain poured down, in it. Whether visible or invisible, it remained mysterious! This indescribable commodity that has no replacement. What a gift from God!
