Love is Blind
Born 1999, M, from Chennai, India
The alarm snoozes beside me. I stare at the wall clock. It is 10.15 AM. Damn, it. I overslept , Again. I have a train to catch in another 15 minutes.
I run to the restroom, brush my teeth without brushing, pour some cold water over myself, and try to comb my hair with my hand, which resulted in making it more messed up. I take my office bag, switch off the lights, and run towards the door.
Why do I always do this? Why can I ever be a responsible adult and get up early? I never can answer that question. Or I can just say, I am that stupid.
I take a cab to the station, and reach on time. My train is about to leave. I run as fast I could, and experience a huge sigh of relief once I stepped on board.
I take a while to find my seat number, and get myself settled finally. It is a two person compartment. My opposite seat was still empty. I really hoped it would remain empty, so I can keep the whole coach to myself. I open the windows, puts my bag on the roof and feels the cool breeze splashing upon my face.
I hear a creaking sound. It’s my coach door being opened. Ah, I thought to myself. Looks like I can’t have the whole coach t myself.
While I was expecting a old, crooked man to enter my coach(It happens, EVERYTIME!), I was taken back by shock and surprise. I couldn’t really believe my eyes. It was a girl, oh no, not just a girl, a VERY gorgeous girl!
I tried not to look too happy and wipe the stupid smile off my face. She was tall, blonde, white skin tone. She wore a beautiful black coolers which went perfectly matched with her beautiful and shining face. She had a hourglass figure, and a fantastic perfume. She wore a stunning black sleeveless dress, showing her perfectly slender and slightly toned arms. She must have wore at least a 4 inch heels. It was just seconds I saw this girl, now I could describe her in a better way than she could ever describe herself. I tried not to keep staring at her.
After a couple of minutes, the train started to move. She still wore the coolers, I was unable to decide where exactly she was looking at.
“Hello”, I spoke softly to her. She replied “Hello”, in a more husky yet the sweetest voice I’ve ever heard.
“I’m David”, I said. “Tanya”, she replied.
I tried hard not to look too pathetic, but I couldn’t help it. “You’re beautiful”, I told her.
“What do you see outside”, she asked me? I was kinda expecting “Thanks or…..stop flirting boy” or something like that as a response. This was a unexpected one.
“Well…trees, birds, tracks…..something along those lines”, I told her.
She nodded silently.
“Why did you ask that”?, I spoke in a puzzled tone.
“ I don’t see things, I only feel them”, she told me.
I was puzzled again , but decided to drop it. “Your costume is really amazing”, I started flirting….again.
“You sound like a gallant man”, she told me. I had the feeling of flying in the sky after hearing this.I always thought myself to be a hopeless romantic at heart.
“well…..” I stammered to talk. She suddenly asked me a question which sent shivers through my shine. “What is love, for you”?, she asked. I was confused, puzzled and was searching for words.
“Well…..Love is when…you trust your partner more than you would ever trust yourselves. When you care for them even during a fight. When you stand up for them when millions stand against them. When you can’t stop thinking about them, not even a single moment……”, she raised her hand signalling for me to stop.
I abruptly shut my mouth.
She nodded slowly and smiled. “Why did you stop me”?, I asked. “I’ve heard enough”, she told me.
The train was slowing coming to a halt.
“What is love, for you”?, I asked her. She slowly stood up. “It’s my station”, she told me.
“Just tell me, what is love for you?”, I insisted her to tell it.
“Love is Blind”, she opened the door and stepped outside as she spoke those words.
I heard some commotion at the exit point. Then a old man, like I had thought before, entered my coach.
“Poor girl, dropped her coolers and almost fell down the steps”, he spoke looking at me.
“What did her eyes look like”? I asked him out of the blue. As I said, I’m stupid and was extremely curious to see her eyes.
“It was beautiful” He said, and continued “ It’s like a bird without wings. It was so beautiful, but she couldn’t use it”.
I was confused.
“What does that mean”, I asked in a confused tone.
“Oh, well, She is blind. What a waste of such a beautiful eye, uh?”. He sat down on the seat, leaving me a lighting thunder struck on my head.
“She is blind”. I said to myself.
I looked at the window and smiled.
“Love really is blind”, I whispered to myself and slept.
