Fragile

They said they were late. Said she was late. Said there was no room for her. But there used to be. A philosopher once said that your soul always wants to go back to “the idea world”. True, it did, but as soon as you are there, you want to go back. Actually, its programmed in the soul atoms to want to go back. That made perfect sense because if that wouldn’t be, who would go back to that imperfect world? She knew it was human, but she was programmed to want to go back. In comparison to they, she was a complete soul - they were the Earth soul, the soul of every thing that has and will ever live. She was here because they were late. And she was here a long time now. And in all this time, she was in memories. The memories of they. She saw everything from the first sunset to the last on record. Somehow, every one came back at the same time. Mystery misery. A perfect match. She laughed and opened her eyes. She knew the feeling from the memories, but this was the real world. How? How was that possible? She was a soul! She looked around. Centuries had passed since she was supposed to go to the incomplete world of the humans, and it was slowly rotting away. Everywhere people were sitting and lying lifelessly, as if they all agreed to fall into a coma at once. She knew better. They were dead.

After every one was dead, there was no way for the human souls to go to the human world. If no new bodies existed, there was no way to become solid, and therefore no way to exist in a material world. That’s why she was stuck in the idea world. Obviously she was supposed to come here to the material world. The human race was exiting, but their souls weren’t. Even though it didn’t really interest her, she had to think about How? Why? From where did she get a body? She was human after all. At least she was now. She stood up, and walked along the street she had woken up on. Still, people were lying around everywhere. An expression of regret and something like happiness on their faces.

She wasn’t sad about the people. She knew them and their memories from they, and knew that they still existed in they. She was feeling something, sensing a presence, like she used to sense the individual souls in they. She went after the sense like a human would follow a scent. She might not be in a human body, but she was still a soul. She found what she was looking for. It was a hospital. It was where her sense ended. She looked all over the hospital and ended in a lonely room. In it was a little girl, about her age. She was far from dead, she was in a coma, and she was dreaming. She took the hand of the girl and closed her eyes, the next time she opened them, she was in a utopia. The sky was pink red and orange, the streets full of people, behind her, was a dock, with beautiful ships, but even though every thing was so beautiful, it had something bizarre, that didn’t fit in the imperfect world. She walked along the street full of people and got to a big shimmering palace. In it was a huge throne, and on it, the girl she had found in the hospital, in whose dream she was right now. And then, wasn’t in anymore. She looked at the sleeping girl. And walked away. This was all that was left of humanity. Two girls, and a utopia that could never exist in human reality. But now, that there were no humans to say what was human reality, she might as well build up her own, and give humanity another chance. Or at least, her self. She lay down on a bed of dust, and started to dream the dream of humanity. And then, a few minutes later, standing in the middle of a schoolyard full of people, she started to think about reality, and how easy it was to bend it, and how fragile it was.

Your story seems to be very original and creative, Lily, and definitely provokes thought and imagination. It is also very impressive writing for a young teen. You are a wonderfully talented young writer and I hope that you will continue to write and share your stories. Thank you for sharing this one! : )
