Graduation
Sitting in class on June 1st at 2:40, I only had 5 more minutes until this chapter of my life changed. Hi I'm Jamie, I'm a senior at Thornton Academy and this is my story. I sat in class listening to a boring lecture my history teacher was giving us about life after school. I already knew my plan, so why did I have to keep hearing the same lecture from teachers, parents, family members and my school counselor? I'm attending Harvard class of 2022, I'm going to be a great surgeon at the number one trauma hospital. I know exactly what I have to do, and exactly how to get it. Weekends when everyone else was partying, dating, and working I would be home studying for that next pop quiz, or maybe the test that everyone was worrying about but not enough to study for. I didn't have a life, but I was okay with that. I had my friends and they knew my goals. 5 minutes went by after I zoned out and its 2:45pm, high school was over.
I went home after school like I always do, but this time I knew I wasn't coming back, well until I walk across the stage and receive my diploma. Sunday came around as I finished combing my hair, I slowly put my cap on my head. It felt amazing, all my accomplishments came flowing into my mind which allowed me to wear this cap proudly saying “I did it”.
One by one my class advisor called our names as we were standing in line.
“Matt Leblanc”
“Emily Lou”
And next thing I heard was
“Jamie Jefferson”
At that moment, I felt my proudest walking across that stage.
Later that night I decided to go to my first party, it was only right to celebrate all my accomplishments. The party was loud and everyone was drinking. I didn't know what a drink tasted like because I'd never had it before. Some guy came up and handed me a drink, I was going to say no, but I decided to try it. It was breath taking, My first drink turned into my 10th drink.
“ Jamie you should slow down, you gonna get way too drunk”, said Zoe.
“Don't worry about me, I can make decisions myself”, I replied.
“Come get me when you want to leave, your not driving”, said Zoe.
When Zoe tried grabbing my car keys, I pushed her to the ground. I got down and started to shake her, Zoe was unconscious. At that moment I realized I messed up, and I had to get out of there. I jumped into my car and started to drive down the road. As I drove I looked at my phone for 5 minutes to find the numbers to call the cops anonymously to get Zoe help. I knew it wasn't a smart idea to be driving because I couldn't see that far ahead of me, but I couldn't get myself to stop the car. My hands started slipping and I was losing grip of the wheel. every few seconds I would re-tighten my hands. Headlights were coming my way, as they approached I couldn't see the road, all I could hear was tons of beeping, and then nothing.
I was rushed to the hospital unconscious. The doctors rushed me into surgery with a 20% chance of living.
After my surgery the doctors came out to speak to my family.
“Mrs and Mr Jefferson”, the doctor called out.
“yes sir, can I see my daughter?”, Said my parents.
“Can you guys please sit down, there was some unexpected complications in surgery. Jamie did not make it. I'm so sorry”, the doctor said sincerely.

05/02/2022I missed stories that also serve as what once was called ``Cautionary Tales´´. Especially, when that does not impair the writing style and ideas. R.I.P., Jamie Overconfident. Made me remember, how university turned me into a more toxi, much more arrogant mockery of myself.
