MIA:
As soon as she got out the shampoo, I was gone. I saw her raise her eyebrows as I shied away, as far away as possible. I manage to get the porch door open with my snout and I scamper under the dinner table. My dad raises his eyebrow as well at me through the glass table. The neighbor laughs at me. Then I hear a sound. Uh oh. The porch door opens, and Hannah walks out, shampoo in hand. She grabs a towel from off the ground and points at me, hiding under the table.
"Yeah." She says. "You know what's happening, don't you?" She reaches under the table and her strong hands pull me away. She sets me on the ground again and pushes me lightly toward the stairs. I sit down, giving her the message that I don't want to be touched. She just pushes me again, a little harder, and I stand. She leads me to the stairs, and I sprint, trying to get as far as possible from the bathroom. She just catches me again, though, and carries me to the bathroom. I squirm, but then she puts me down in the bathroom, closing the door behind us. She turns on the bath. I sit with dread as the water platters into the tub. Hannah reaches down and takes off my collar, taking off her ring as well and putting them on the counter. She takes the floor carpets and throws them out the door. She also sets the shampoo and a small bucket on the edge of the bath. When she's satisfied with the water level, she turns the faucet off and turns to face me, a smirk on her face. She knows I hate baths.
"Okay, Mia, come on." She says as she corners me. Her strong hands wrap around me again, and I know I can't fight her. I still tense when she lifts me over the edge of the bath, though. She sets me in the tub. Despite the warm water, I still shiver. Hannah smiles as she takes the small bucket and dumps it over my head. I lick the water from my nose to make sure I can breath. She dumps water on me until she's satisfied. I put my paw on her arm, and she just smiles and shrugs it off, saying "reassuring" things like, "It's okay, puppy, I'm almost done," or, "Hey, hey, baby, you have to stay in". I give her puppy eyes, but it's no use. She's used to it.
Hannah rubs the shampoo into my fur. I have to admit, it feels good to get a massage from her hands. I stand there, and for once, I don't try to get out of the tub. But she finishes soon, and starts dumping the water all over me again, rubbing me to get the shampoo out. I put my paw on her arms again. She shrugs me off again. I'm sad again.
Then, finally, it's over. She drains the water, and when she finally moves and gestures for me to climb out. I jump out of the tub and slip around, shaking my fur so I can get the water out. Hannah squeals with laughter, as she covers her face with her hands. I shake again. I shy away from her when she gets close. She put me through this. She throws a towel on me, and as soon as she's done drying and opens the door, I bolt out. I sprint down the stairs, away from all this madness.

07/31/2018Hi Hannah, The dog in the picture definitely looks 'deadly-unhappy' with the whole bath thing! I'm glad you both got through it. Thanks for sharing your real life story on Storystar and congratulations on being chosen as one of the Short Story STARS of the Week! :-)

05/29/2018Hannah,
I am pretty sure your dog loves you! This brought back memories of my Kathy washing our Sally. Kathy was the only one that Sally would tolerate this from. My daughters and I weren't extended that privilege. Every Dog owner worth their salt will love both your story and the smile it brings to their faces. Good job. Stay dry! Smiles, Kevin

05/29/2018That is why I added the little : "Stay Dry" comment. If you have Curiosity Stream on your Computer, you can look up a documentary called: "The Secret Lives of Dogs"- and they explain how dogs dry themselves off, but get everyone around them wet! It never bothered me to get drenched, I always thought it was funny. Smiles, Kevin
