THE BOY WHO LIVED IN MY POCKET

(Note that Dexter was 17 years old when he wrote this story.)

Well this story may be hard to believe, but it's 100 percent true. This is a story of a boy who lived in my pocket. Now I don't really know how he got there, or why he chose my shirt, but that's not the important part. The point is that this "little" boy helped me with the "biggest" thing in my life. His name is Jason and when we first met I almost crushed him. Of course he paid me back by biting the fingers that tried to squish him, but what's skin between friends. Anyway, after I figured out that he wasn't going to leave, we went to the garage to work on my science project. The same Science project that will finally beat that hack Melville, and hopefully make Cindy notice me.
"So what's so special about Cindy," asked Jason?
"Well nothing really except that she is the most beautiful girl in school, with the intelligence of Einstein."
"So why don't you ask her out?"
"I've tried, but the only guy she dates is the winner of the annual Science Fair, which Melville has won for the past two years... by cheating. Two years ago he sabotaged my project, and last year he trapped me in the janitors closet so the judges wouldn't judge me. But this year is different, this year I'll be ready for him. At least that's what I tell Ashley."
"Who's Ashley?" Jason inquired.
"Well, Ashley is my best friend. She always sticks up for me, and she's usually the one who comforts me each year after Melville ruins my project. Anyway I gotta get some sleep before the science fair. Good night Jason."
"Good night Dexter."
******
"Hurry up Cindy!"
"Hold on, I'm coming...."
Jason wakes up and hears a noise from the garage.
"Come on, Cindy, if we're going to destroy this thing we need to hurry up."
"Hey!" Yells Jason.
"Who said that?" Questioned Melville.
"Stop, get away from his project!" Jason demanded.
"Melville, who is that?" Wondered Cindy.
"Dexter, Dexter wake up!" Cried Jason.
"Let's get out of here!" Said Melville.
Jason rushes to Dexter's room and pokes his eye, "Wake up!"
"What, what?"
"Melville and Cindy were here and they destroyed your project."
Dexter rushes to the garage to see his project ruined. "Well that's it. Three strikes and I'm out. And it was supposed to shoot out gravitons that spelled I love Cindy. Guess she doesn't love me." Murmured Dexter as he left the room.
I guess it's time for me to go to work, thought Jason. Jason worked all night to put Dexter's project back together, with a little surprise. When Dexter awoke he found his project completely restored with Jason sleeping right next to it. He simply smilled, put Jason in his pocket, and took his project to the fair.
"Hello Dexter, sorry about your project," Cindy said with a sarcastic concern.
"What are you talking about, my project's right here." Cindy's jaw almost hit the floor, as did Melville's as he looked over while being interviewed. Then the judges came to Dexter. "Now Dexter what did you build?" "Well it will be better if I show you." He replied, pushing the green button. Reddish balls of light come popping from the machine, spelling out, I... LOVE... YOU... ASHLEY!
"I love you too!" Cooed Ashley.
"Ashley ran over to kiss me, and at the time I didn't mind the surprise."
"Then what happened Gramps?"
"Well... then we got to know each other better and found out we wanted to be more than friends, and eventually we got married, had your father, and then he had you."
"Wait a second, are you saying that the only reason we're here is because some guy who lived in your pocket got you and Grams together?"
"Well I told you he helped me with the 'biggest' thing in my life."
"So what happened to him Gramps?"
"I don't really know. When I looked down in my pocket to thank him, he was gone and all that was left was a note saying, I'll see ya around."
"And you didn't look for him?"
"Of course, but when I looked around all I saw was some guy talking into his soda can, but that's another story."
"Nice story Gramps, but there's no way that's true."
"But it is."
"Sure Gramps, sure."
