{Recording Start} [Inaudible Muffled Sound] *Coughs* Hi, I'm Max. Mommy says I should start doing these recordings, so I can listen to them when I'm older. I'm eight years old right now and I live in California, near L.A. I have a Mommy; Mary, a Daddy; James and my brothers, Freddy and Clarice. We used to have a dog; Rufus but he died a couple of years back. My Mom works at Shady Glen, a retirement home for old people. Daddy works in a garage fixing cars. My brother Freddy is seven so he's too young to get a job, but he mostly lives in the hospital in Oakland. We go there to visit sometimes but I don't like it. It's a big old building with no windows and I sometimes have nightmares about getting trapped in there. Inside it's all white and smells funny. All the doctors who look after Freddy are boring and mean. They smile with their mouth but not their eyes, so you know they don't mean it. Mommy says it must be hard working in a place like that. I wonder if she's scared too. {Recording End}
Recording: 11/19 9:48 AM
{Recording Start} [Inaudible Background Sound] Mommy says that Freddy's brain isn't like normal people’s brains. She says thoughts and emotions are like rivers. Normal people can stop and start the rivers whenever they want to, but Freddy can't. Mommy says that Freddy's brain rivers are all going at once and that sometimes they collide, and this is hard for Freddy because it means he can't think properly. Sometimes one of Freddy's brain rivers overflows and floods his head. This means he can't control his actions or how he expresses his emotions. She says the doctors say he's fine and ready to come back and live with us again, but she thinks Freddy is trying to fake normality, so he can come home and be with us. She said that after what happened last time with Rufus, we need to be certain. {Recording End}

{Recording Start} Freddy’s coming home today! I'm so excited. Mommy's calling me. I need to go.
"Hi, Freddy!"
"Hi"
"Come over here, I'm doing a recording"
"Okay"
"Say hi Freddy"
"Hello"
"Do you want to say anything else?"
"Not really"
"Okay, do you want to see my room?"
"Sure"
"Come on!"[Inaudible Background Sound, Freddy, and Max can be heard] {Recording End}

{Recording Start} It’s December! [Laughs] Mommy put up an advent calendar. We get a chocolate every day before Christmas. They get bigger the closer you get to Christmas! Today my one was in the shape of a snowman. Freddy's was in the shape of Santa. Clarence didn't have one because he doesn't like chocolate. I love Christmas, especially when Freddy visits. Having the whole family here will make it so much more fun! I can't wait for Santa to come! All right, bye-bye {Recording End}
Recording: 12/2 8:59 AM
{Recording Start} I found Rufus today. He was in Freddy's closet. I was very happy to see him again, but he couldn't see me because he lost his eyes. There were only empty holes where they should have been. He was very muddy and had bugs all over him. When I showed him to Mommy she screamed and said a curse word. Daddy buried him again in the backyard. [Pause] Freddy's room is covered with drawings. The walls and ceiling and floor have got scribbled drawings of spiderwebs and big spiders and there are sticky cobwebs everywhere. Mummy says he pretends he didn't do it, so he doesn’t get in trouble and must go back to the hospital. I don't want him to leave. I like it when Freddy's here. Mommy says he will have to go back to the hospital though. Mommy says I can have his advent calendar chocolates. [Pause]Other things have been happening here as well. Scary things. Things I don't like. I found Daddy's razors on the dining room chairs and he found washing up tablets in his pill container. But the things that scare them most is the spiderwebs. I don't know why. They're only spider webs. Mommy keeps telling me that I'm lucky I can control my brain. I don't think my brain is that good, it's filled with spider webs. {Recording End}
Recording: 12/5 5:16 PM
{Recording Start} Freddy is going home today. I'm very sad even though I get his chocolates. Clarence is sad too, he's crying in the basement. Clarence is always sad, I don't know why. I said goodbye to Freddy when he was taken into the hospital, but he didn't even look at me. I feel very bad that he must go back. It wasn't his fault, he didn't do anything. {Recording End}
Recording: 12/5 11:43 PM
{Recording Start} [Muffled sound, Freddy and Max's parents talking]
"I can hear it again James."
"Hear what?"
"The crying, coming from the basement."
"Don't pay attention to it, it's nothing."
"Oh, crap Freddy's recorder's on."
"Turn it off."
"I a-"
{Recording End}
Final Recording: 12/24 11:56 AM
{Recording Start} I’m very sad Freddy had to go away. I like it when he comes home. It means that I can put Daddy's razors on the chairs and put the dishwasher tablets in his pill container. When Freddy comes home, I can dig up Rufus, take out his eyes and put him in Freddy's closet. It means I can draw on the walls and do whatever I want and Mommy and Daddy blame Freddy. I know it's mean but I can't help it. I only do what Clarence tells me to do. [Starts crying] I can't help it. [Sobs] My brains just filled with spider webs. [Muffled background noise]
"Max? What's going on? Max? are in he-Oh my goodness! Max! Put that down Max. Max no!"{Recording End}
The Christmas Incident, as it has been dubbed by the media is one of the most disconcerting and contested mass murders in the history of crime. On the 24th of December 1968, the Johnson family was found in their Riverside home in southern Illinois. Three members of the family of four were found dead. Their second-born Freddy Johnson was housed in the Sinclair Institution for the Mentally Disturbed at the time. Paramedics confirmed that the family died from a synced heart failure, but this seems very unlikely. The eldest child, Max was found holding a Christmas themed doll that belonged to the only child of the house’s previous owner, Clarence. The doll was based on the popular character of folklore, Father Christmas, Saint Nicholas or Santa Claus. This is referenced to when Max mentions he 'can't wait for Santa to come'. The doll can be seen below this report. Clarence had died shortly after eating a Christmas themed chocolate from an advent calendar sixteen years prior to the event. Freddy seems to have been controlled or forced by the 'ghost' of Clarence to play tricks. This can be heard in Max's recording when he mentions that he only does what 'Clarence tells him to do'. It was said that you can hear his spirit crying in the basement around Christmas time, but this has not been confirmed except by Mrs. Johnson mentioning 'hearing the crying again'. It is believed Max Johnson saw the spirit as a real person, his second brother. The house was covered with Max's drawings and the 'tricks' he had played on his innocent parents on the day of their death. Freddy Johnson was later deemed perfectly sane and became a horror writer before disappearing in the 1980s. Freddy Krueger was based on his memory and his novels. [End Report]
