The Present Moment was worried. The Past was not moving out of the way. If the Present Moment couldn’t push some of the Past out to make room for today, well…tomorrow would have less chance for a future. Debbie hadn’t laughed in years. She was to busy being everything for everyone. Leaving little, or no time, for the Present Moment to be about her. Her Past kept creeping in to make today, part of yesterday before the Present Moment even got a toe hold on the day.
The Funny thing is, that the Present Moment knew that the key to her future lay in her past. Horses. Yes, horses. In her past, long past, Horses were part of her childhood loves before any boys, school, jobs, Men, or Motherhood. She loved her horses, she loved the long summers at her Grandpa’s house, and she remembered every smell of the barn…from fresh hay to the fly ridden manure pile.
She could remember combing her horse until its main and coat were silky smooth- and the lovely smell of leather as she put the tack away. Metal, leather, saddles, oats, and the thick knit of the saddle blankets- all triggered memories. Good memories. Bad hips had taken away her ability to ride, but not her love of horses.
The Present Moment presented its idea to the Past…hoping that the Past would let her go into her future with a positive link, and not keep dragging her back. The Past agreed.
And so it was, in the present Moment, her granddaughters friend’s Mother asked her if she knew anything about horses.
“Yes. I used to own several of them. Why do you ask?”
“My husband is wrapped around my daughter’s fingers. She asked for a horse for her Birthday next month…and he bought her one.”
“Oh, Dear. What kind?”
“I don’t know. I just know he bought it from a Lady who is closing her Riding School. We have to pick it up in a month. He made arraignments for its boarding at the barn down in the Valley…about a half hour from our house. I don’t know what is involved. I mean how does she feed it? What should she wear? Can she just hop on a horse? Don’t you need lessons or something. She is only ten, and the horse is so big.“
Debbie smiled as the Present Moment made room for just a little bit of the past.
“I was ten when I got my first horse.”
“Really?”
“Oh, yes. Scarlett Button was her name. I loved her. She loved me.”
“Could you tell my daughter about her?”
“Oh, I would love to!”
The two women walked over to where their offspring were playing…a smile played across Debbie’s lips.
The Present Moment Smiled. It had made enough room for the Future to squeeze in.
The Past faded into the Future like a seamless shadow blending today with tomorrow and yesterday.
In the Present Moment.

Help Us Understand What's Happening

06/25/2019Thanks Charles!
Wouldn't you like to be a Proton? Where everything is now, and you know all existence as a single moment? Maybe...it is better this way, because we get to both reflect and savor our lives.
Smiles, Kevin
