Walter should have known better then giving old people beer, but it was so worth it when he saw what happened to James. One second Walter was in the hallway giving the nursing staff more Nyquil so they slept through the rest of the party. As soon as Walter was back in the door of the nursing home’s recreational room, he saw James belting out the lyrics to Katy Perry’s Fireworks song on the table. Then things turned for the worst when Francine wheeled her wheelchair over and sat in front of James with her arms up. “I got you!!!” Francine yelled as she put her arms up and James crowd surfed off the table and right into poor Francine’s lap. Walter scrambled to Francine’s aid as James popped up yelling, “That was awesome!” He yelled as he grabbed a bottle of liquor and headed out the door. “James!” Walter yelled as he saw his drunk friend stumble out the door with a big bottle of champagne. “Are you okay Francine?” Walter asked as she shook her head yes. “I think your big problem is the drunk guy who just left the party. You might want to find him before the nurses wake up.” Francine sighed as Walter helped her up and made sure she was okay before he left the room to find James.
“James!” He whispered loudly as he made his way past the nurse’s desk. He passed James’s bedroom as he made his way through the third floor with no sign of James. “Wooooo!” he heard a drunk guy shout in the distance. “James!” Walter yelled as he started towards the drunken screams. “Wooooo!” Walter heard again, but in the opposite direction. “God damn, this guy.” Walter muttered under his breath as navigated his way down the bright corridor to where the shouts were coming from. He stopped in front of the nurse’s office to catch his breath as he saw James run around the corner with underwear on his head. “James! You have a bad knee! Stop running.” Walter shouted as he limped towards James who was now putting his underwear on a fake skeleton. Walter finally caught James as he was drunkenly walking past the nurse’s station again.
“Mr. Bodd?” Walter heard one of the nurses say through a faint and scratchy voice. “Think, think, think.” Walter thought as he devised a plan to deceive the nurse. He grabbed a bottle of Nyquil and walked back to the nurse. “Yes, hi.” Walter said as the nurse started to become more conscious. “Mr. Bodd? What happened.” The nurse asked him as she fully woke up. “Um, you passed out.” Walter quickly said. “Why does Mr. Watson have underwear on his head?” The nurse asked. Walter spun around to see James got another pair of his underwear and put them on his head. “How did he even get a new pair that fast!” Walter thought as he stood there stunned. “Wow, um okay. He just felt a slight breeze and wanted to stay warm.” Walter said back. “Oh, okay that makes total sense.” She said back. “Do you have a glass of water?” She asked. “Of course, I will be right back.” Walter hurried away from the nurse’s desk to the break room. He grabbed a cup and filled it with a splash of Nyquil and hurried back to the nurse’s desk but she fell back asleep before he could dose her again.
“James! You almost got us caught. Now your coming with me.” Walter said as he grabbed James by the wrist and dragged him back to the recreational room. The old people were doing a limbo line, and Walter and James stood with their mouths open in shock. Old person after old person where all so drunk that they were so loosened up they didn’t even break their backs. That was when Walter made the decision to never smuggle beer into a nursing home again. Walter decided to bring James back to his room for the night so he could clean up the party. As he placed James into bed, James looked at Walter in a weird way and then started breathing heavy. “Thank you for being patient and giving me one last party to enjoy.” Walter solemnly shook his head and gave James a hug. With that, James took his last breath and Walter woke up the nurses to tell them how he went out with a bang.
