One day, in the middle of summer, Billy Jay looked outside from his bedroom window and was totally startled. All he could see was snow everywhere and it was coming down in a fury. It covered houses, cars, and even the swimming pool he had just swam in yesterday! "Mom," he yelled. "Why are we having a snowstorm in the middle of July?!" He rushed downstairs to find his whole family in front of their TV watching the weather channel. In the corner of the room, the fireplace was burning large logs. "We don't know what's going on either," Billy Jay's father said. He was at home because he couldn't get out of the snow-covered driveway to make it to work. The weatherman seems to think that the mountain, Mt. Rainier, is dropping large avalanche pieces to the cities below. Currently, there are scientists making their way to the mountain range to see if they can discover why the snow is falling. Meanwhile, in the kitchen, Billy Jay's sister, Gigi, was in the kitchen making hot chocolate for everyone. "We might as well make the most of it since we can't go kayaking in the lake today. "I know," Billy Jay yelled. "Let's get the neighborhood kids for a snowball fight! It will be awesome." He dressed in his warmest clothes and walked door to door to get his friends. When there was enough to form two teams of five, they all started throwing snowballs at each other. They continued for over three hours and then they all went home because they were getting cold. That evening, after dinner, as they sat watching TV, a breaking news update came on. "CLIMATE CHANGE ISSUES. Scientists have reported that the atmosphere is changing drastically and causing nature to act in mysterious ways" the weather forecaster announced. "What does that mean? " Billy Jay asked. "I think that would be an awesome topic for you to research and write about," his mom replied. Billy Jay went up to his room and spent the next few hours on his computer and researched everything there was to know about climate change. "Wow," he thought. "Just wow."
