The Shootout
Born 1997, F, from Hartford, United StatesCarson Boone was a 19 year old modern day cowboy who rarely shoots a gun. Now he is facing off with the Sheriff in a shootout for some Native American gems. “Go get him baby.” The sheriff’s wife said as she handed him his pistol and walked to the sidelines to watch. “You ready son?” The Sheriff asked as Carson nervously twisted his gun around. “Last chance to back down and take your arse home in one piece.” The sheriff said as he rolled the bullets in the revolver holder and turned to his wife to say something to her.
Carson swallowed the lump in his throat as he rolled the barrel to see how many bullets he had to use. He could feel the pit in his stomach as he saw that there were no bullets in his gun. He quickly put two and two together and realized the sheriff was cheating him. The sheriff needed him out of the way to have the Native American gems. A shootout would make it seem like the sheriff won fair and square with no questions asked. Carson quickly looked at the sheriff to make sure he wasn’t looking before he looked for his best friend Artie Ace in the crowd. “I have no gun.” Carson mouthed to Artie as a last attempt to get help before the shootout. Carson watched as Artie nodded his head and nonchalantly disappeared into the crowd.
“Let’s do this. 10 step walk and then turn around and shoot.” The sheriff explained as we put our backs against each other and began the dead man’s walk. “One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine……..” The Sheriff went quiet. No gun shots, just silence. Carson slowly turned and saw the Sheriff staring at him with a smirk. “I got him Carson!” Artie yelled as he shot the Sheriff straight in the heart. “Nooooo!” We heard the Sheriff’s wife yell as she sobbed and ran to her husband’s aid. “You did this!” The wife screamed as Carson pushed her aside and grabbed the Native American jewels from the dead Sheriff’s pocket. “No one messes with the sheriff’s family.” His wife said as she grabbed my hand. Carson pushed her off and ran back to Artie and the horse Artie managed to get. Carson and Artie rode off with a heavy but fulfilled heart as they discussed how to keep the gems safe from now on.
