This was one of those unusual nights, a night where I was tired but very restless. Made several attempts to fall asleep but just couldn’t. My mind was spinning, school, grades, my parents constantly hounding about choosing a college for next year and more importantly the argument I had with my girlfriend a few hours ago. Things will work out, at least I hope they do! I took a couple of deep breaths to relax and then shut my eyes. Lying there I started to notice little things, the street light from the outside emanated a slight glow from my bedroom window, stretching halfway across the floor. I could faintly hear my father snoring from down the hall. Glancing out my bedroom door I could see the moon peeking through the stairway window. The windows had a slight frost around the edges that gave it a look from a Norman Rockwell painting. Everything looked so peaceful. Then the thumping of the pipes started as the forced hot water made its way into the radiator. Click, Bang, Click , Bang, the rhythm lasted for only about a minute. Peeking over at the alarm clock, I noticed the red digital lights, 1:00. Well at least it’s a Friday night and I didn't have to get up in the morning. Sitting up, I grabbed the blanket at the foot of my bed and pulled it up over me for an extra layer. Even though the heat came on you could really feel that early March chill. I snuggled into bed with blankets right under my chin. Rolling over to my left side, I curled up into a big ball. Finally I felt more relaxed. Closing my eyes, I could feel my mind drifting off to sleep and then I felt something jump up onto the bed! Slowly I opened my eyes I could see the bright white fur of the cat cuddle into the bed right by my knees. I could hear her faint purr. I reached down to pet her and could feel the silk like coat. She raised her head slightly and leaned into my hand as I scratched her neck. A chilly came over me and moved my hand back to pull the blanks in closer. After a few minutes I tried to stretch out my legs and roll over onto my back, but the cat was in my way. “Ok you gotta move”, I quietly said and brushed the cat of the bed with my right hand as I rolled over.
My mind drifted off again and my entire body began to melt into the mattress. I felt the cat leap back up onto the bed again. She found a spot and nestled right into me, this time next to my left hip. I could feel the slight vibrations of her purring against my hip. This time my left hand brushed her off the bed again. “Please stop,” I uttered a little louder. Both times I was on the threshold of drifting off to sleep. Taking a deep breath my mind commenced into the realm of unconsciousness. That damn cat would not let up; she jumped up again and tried to burrow into my left side. “Are you kidding me”, I muttered to myself and pushed the cat off the bed a third time. I cursorily glanced over at my clock and saw that it was 1:43. Then it struck me, we don’t have a cat! Nor did we ever own one! An icy sensation dashed down my body. Now I was wide awake! I began to think to myself, must have been dreaming. The funny thing is it felt so genuine, so life like. I could feel her soft fur and the warmth of her body against mine. Maybe this was a very intense, vivid dream.
I laid my head back down on the pillow and just as I was about to shut my eyes I noticed a luminous bright orb floating at the foot of my bed. This orb’s glow was a brilliant, intense, white light. The glow did not light up the room, but its radiance came from within. It was magnificent amber light. It just floated there about three to four feet off the floor. Although its shape was more oval and it seemed to be about three feet long, top to bottom, and about two feet wide. Watching this sphere hover, I could not move or make any sound. My body was in a state of paralysis. I tried to yell or scream but nothing was coming out of my mouth. As it hovered at the foot of my bed, I begin to feel this extreme sensation come over me. This extraordinary orb was letting me know that it was a female and she was extremely upset with me. Although I was still in a state of shock, I sensed that she was not going to harm me and she insisted that I know this. These feelings overwhelmed my mind. Her movement began to proceed across my bed, and as just as she approached the window, she vanished.
What the hell just happened? I thought to myself. I was wide awake and could not wrap my mind around this encounter. Don’t know what to think or do. As the paralysis faded away, feeling came back to my body. I could hear my voice as I repeated, “What the hell was that?” I rolled over to my left and switched on the desk lamp. Looking at the clock it was now 2:00. The desk light stayed on for the rest of the night. My mind was filled with an intense and persistent fear that something else was going to happen tonight. My heart was still racing and my eyes were ready to catch anything that moved. The drowsiness that I felt earlier had completely left my body. I watched as every hour ticked by, until I saw the sunlight creep its way through my window. Even then, I still felt uneasy about going to sleep.
When I heard the door to my parents’ bedroom open and saw my mother walk across the hallway, I felt calmer than I did before. As my eyes began to shut but I still was troubled by this whole ordeal. I could not understand why this apparition was so mad at me? I kept asking myself, what did I do? What did I say? Was I ignoring her? Then something clicked in my mind about why this ghostly orb was so upset at me.
“The Cat!” I yelled out.
“What cat?” my mother responded coming out of the bathroom.
“Oh!” I replied, “Just a dream I had.”
I kept pushing the cat away from me! That cat was the orb, the entity, the spirit that was trying to get my attention. Every time she jumped on the bed she wanted some attention. That’s why she was so irritated with me. Little did I know that this would be the first of many experiences that I would encounter in my life. To this day I still experience mystical encounters.
