“Amanda Spike you will never be any good as a spy! You are too clumsy, too stupid, too lazy, and not committed to working over time!” Such was the typical verbal barrage that Amanda had to face each day at training camp. The training sergeants were all quite able to destroy young peoples egos, and their wish to become some one special! Amanda gritted her teeth and just got on with it! Amanda had seen enough television personalities whinging about their ‘poor-me‘ circumstances to agree that public complaining was usually excessive self-pity!
Amanda, like all of the other girls, had simply drifted from the Girl Scouts into the Academy without knowing that something quite different was coming. Each probably thought that by now they could manage all of the assigned tasks. They could just sit back and enjoy a couple of years before being hurled into the hectic workplace, or student circles. It all changed very suddenly when the anticipated week of ‘soft camping’ turned into a demanding boot camp. Without being told why they were issued with charts for their program - indicating the busy, full, and exhausting schedule of activities, iron rations, uncomfortable accommodation, and loud-shouting training personnel. Any objections by the girls, any foulness, any contra-attitude, was met by groups of instructors circling the ‘difficult’ individual. No threats were made but the message of ‘not obeying’ was eminently clear. It had become a course of ‘do as you are told’ or you ‘may receive something unpleasant!’ So ran the whole training period of three months. If you followed the rules and performed satisfactorily, the girls were fed and left alone for two hours each evening before ‘lights out’. They had been informed that any attempts at rebellion would be noted and heavily counteracted. No direct obvious personal threats were ever made, but a background of strong-will backed the actions of the personnel. The trainees later found out that such regimen was similar in all training camps of all government and military organizations!
The training now took all the basic knowledge they had learned in the Girl Scouts from tying knots to scaling cliffs, and put into actual exercises. These exercises ranged from fairly complicated physical manoeuvres like breaking into guarded facilities including prisons, to actual behind-the-scenes activities in government complexes. Here they had to mix among other government officers and insert their own agendas like exchanging documents between storage lockers of opposing political parties, sharing compromising photos between leading families, exchanging plans of new secret government buildings for non-classified garden sheds, or switching tapes for radio broadcasts. The trainees were trained to be efficiently ‘bad’!
Each of the girl trainees was taught a speciality. Some of these were combative, some were technical, others were simply deadly! Amanda, Claire, and Gillian were selected and trained as Team Leaders. After many exercises with Instructors of the Academy they learned how to climb buildings, traveling across roof tops, breaking into secure buildings, fixing digital entrance cards, disguise as famous persons, and presenting proper speech -- not just grunting as do some television heroes and famous spies. They also learned bodyguard duty, defense against assassins, defense against fools, parachuting, frogwomanning, skydiving, martial arts and the like!
Now the Teams were to act as the Background Force in a real-live high-priority event. The Premier needed to drive across the City to meet a controversial foreign dignitary at the City Airport. There had been warnings that attempts would be made to thwart this meeting. The bad news was that the meeting might be sabotaged at the ‘Killing Level’ not just at the ‘Kidnap Level’! High-level professional teams were in place escorting the Premier on motorbikes. The Academy girls were told to stay at the periphery and observe. They were not expected to be involved – just to watch! Each of these professionals was wired via earphones to some central security network. The academy girls were not linked by earphones but simply by digital screens worn on their wrists. New messages rolled in. The intelligence said that “the attack would be likely be made on the traveling car of the Premier during the drive from the Parliament to the Airport. The attackers knew that the secret service details would be at their weakest at key points along the journey -- especially if they were distracted!”
Then something quite devastatingly unexpected happened. There must have been a high-frequency transmission via the earphones, because all of the elite troops grasped their ears and fell to the ground off their motorbikes in some kind of agony. They were all totally incapacitated, some lying totally still!
Amanda knew she had to do something drastic to circumvent the attack on the Premier.
Amanda quickly organized the ten girls in her group, and coordinated with Claire Sight’s group also of ten girls. They had organized their motor-scooters into four Flights each of five girls. Amanda and Claire had previously examined the maps of the route of the Premier’s car and considered that there were two weak points. Here they thought any attackers could try their assault. They quickly briefed their Teams. The four Flights of wheels were divided between these two weak points. As they were not official Secret Service none of the girls could carry dangerous weapons, but nevertheless they were not fully helpless.
The Premier’s car passed the first weak point on the route without incident. Except to say that Claire and her Team of ten on scooter wheels noted four very heavy motorbikes with thick-set drivers carrying bulky baggage in front and behind them. These four grouped closely behind the Premier’s car as it hurled further along its route. Claire’s girls sped along as fast as they could, but their scooter wheels were light-weight and slow, compared to the speeding car and the four heavy motorbikes. Two of the heavy motorbikes sped ahead of the Premiers’s car, and the official car was now enclosed by four motorbikes. This heavy-group was now a good minute ahead of the first of Claire’s girls on light-wheels. The heavy-motorbikers now forced the Premier’s car to turn down an alley, a side-street off the main route. The official support cars to the Premier’s car were falling behind and would certainly miss the turning.
The heavy-motorbikers forced the Premier's car to halt, and then uncovered the packages mounted on their bikes to reveal cutting tools. It was obviously their intention to force open the Premier’s car. The heavy-motorbikers quickly managed to cut open the back door of the official car. One biker managed to haul the dazed Premier from the wreckage, and onto his motorbike.
Amanda and her Flight had previously noted this second weak point on the route and were able to enter the alley from the far side. Amanda’s team sprung into action. The light-weight girls were all trained in combat, also against burly opponents. In twos and threes the girls grappled with the four burly bikers. The girls were quite versatile with pepper spray and fixing ropes. So in no time at all, three of the bikers were incapacitated. The fourth biker, holding the Premier, was extremely flexible and managed to launch an explosive grenade at the defending girls. The blast shocked Amanda’s girls, and the Premier, who was struggling to hold onto the motorbike seat. The fourth biker was extremely fast and managed to avoid all others and speed away from the scene out of the far side of the alley, with the dazed Premier clutching onto the bike.
Amanda’s girls passed the three roped motor bikers to the following police detail, which had now managed to catch up with the speeding retinue. Dazed and stunned themselves by the explosive grenade, Amanda’s girls assembled their scooter Flights and sped after the fourth biker carrying the Premier. The fourth biker managed to turn his motorbike around the block and sped back along the route from which they had originally traveled. Claire’ Flights were driving full pelt towards the fourth biker transporting the dazed Premier. As if on command the ten girls spread as a wing and their Flights became connected with ropes of steel wire. The speeding fourth bike became caught in the steel wire and managed to pull together the scooters of the Flight. The girls were so rehearsed that they simply glided backwards and closer together without any falling apart. The middle of the backwards-gliding Flight moved with the burly biker and the wings of the Flight came together to catch the dazed Premier. Amanda’s Flights arrived just as the biker was climbing out of the scooter-wire snare. The biker abandoned the kidnapped Premier, and hobbled away down another narrow alley.
Gillian’s Team in the meantime had been circling above the action as observers in two Green Dove helicopters of the Special Watch Unit. Because these helicopters had their own sound filtration system against hypersonic attack, the high frequency impulse that had disabled the Special Watch Unit of the motorbike escort had not reached them. It was not possible for the burly members of the Special Watch Unit to parachute down into the narrow alleys of the City where the kidnap action was taking place. However, Gillian and her girls had been trained for exactly this restricted but fine-precision of alley parachuting! Down they jumped and arrived just in time to isolate the burly-biker from his possible escape route.
The supporting police very quickly coordinated the immobilization of the whole team of attacking bikers, and these were all rapidly arrested and removed. When she had recovered, the Premier profusely thanked the teams of Amanda, Gillian and Claire.
Claire became a full time operative for the Secret Services. Gillian’s Team all became Trainee Astronauts, because finally some official at the Deep Space Agency had realized that lightweight astronauts would be much more easy to transport and feed than the usual body-builders that had been trained so far! Amanda decided that she did not want the concentrated discipline of military related life, so she decided to concentrate more on Search and Rescue for the rest of her time in the Academy.
Amanda, Claire and Gillian met many times in later life through the business of the International Crisis Team (ICT). They encountered, more than once in their later careers, the opponents who had wished to kidnap the Premier! They belonged to a very-large, far-reaching, international syndicate, who were very ambitious to destabilize our world!
