Avalanche
Born 2006, F, from Suzhou, ChinaAvalanche
Mina will think. Even if not thinking won’t be possible, she will try to view it as a choice. The thing of value in the future will not and will never have been the future itself. It’s appeal will always lie in changing the past. Yes, it will lie. Come to think of it, all the future will ever be able to do is to lie. Just as the present will only ever lie. If both present and future will lie, then will the past even have a choice not to lie? If all three, past, present and future will only ever lie, then won’t those lies just turn out to be seen as the truth? If lies will shape the world, then maybe her lies will play a part in it all.
If you will take, for example, the lie that time will just stop if she will believe in it hard enough. It won’t. But she will still pretend that it will. As long as the snow won’t have hit her yet, lies will not be lies. They will only be beliefs.
Maybe this avalanche will feel soft. Maybe there won’t be any pain. Maybe she will still be able to run away. It will be strange. Somehow, she will know with certainty that she won’t need to run. This won’t be all too bad. Some people will miss her. Others won’t. She won’t be mad at those who don’t. They will just be the ones who understand that there won’t be all too big a difference between life and death. Even if she might be important somewhere in the world, she will only ever be important for so long. Wherein would lie the point if she were just to stay here forever?
Will there be pain? Will there be a collage in her mind’s eye of all her experiences, all her fears, all her love, her family, her friends and her supposed happiness? Will she regret shouting into the mountains? No. She won’t regret it. For this will be a nice ending. It will be an ending in proof – a proof that butterflies can cause avalanches.
Butterflies will always be the ones to build this world. She will wake up, and she will fly. Then, she will dream again, and the world will believe in reality once more. It will always do so. It will continue to do so, until she wakes up again.
