A Necromance

Behold here a man of singular tastes,

I come to love what the world tends to waste.


They bring me the stiffs and I lock them away,

Life really starts when the boss leaves for the day.


It takes self-control to not fondle my guests,

I’m not one to molest those sent here to rest.


Though, I fall in love at least once a week,

The still-ones afford me the romance I seek.


But what now is this? In wheels a goddess!

Still adorned in her skirts, slippers, and bodice.


Her locks so much darker for the pale of her cheek,

I brush a stray tress and my knees become weak.


She is just so much more than an average cadaver,

She is beauty’s embodiment and I have to have her.


I steal her away in the dead of the night,

I give passersby an unforgettable fright.


They’ll come for me soon, I expect, it’s for certain,

The world will pull back my clandestine curtain.


Exposed and ashamed, I’ll face consequences,

I don’t even believe my own made-up defenses.


I want nothing more than a life with my love,

Or a death, as it were, more below than above.


And I like to use what the world tends to waste,

Including the arsenic that I’m soon to taste.
