An Unfurling Verse

An Unfurling Verse
Good and ill did shape the world,

From on high, down low were hurled.

Gods begot of pure white light,

Demons forged from blackest night.

Giants frozen into place,

That we may walk upon their face.

Creatures mild and beasts of rage,

Occupy each telling page.

Labyrinthine lore abounds,

In every word devoid of sound.

Wisdom rich for those in rags,

The thorny speech of twisted hags.

Blessing clothes the naked curse,

The healing makes the wound much worse.

Beauty’s fire not simply quelled,

And life in chains of love be held.

Things suppressed will be released,

Time’s momentum drives unceased.

Naught uncages quite like fate,

At darkest hours doth liberate.

Hi Jason

Very interesting that you wrote a page of prose prior to each verse. That's a good idea, isn't it? Clarifies the writing process, especially when having to severely economise with poetry.
I liked your rhyming couplets and the active opposition you took.
Glad to read a poem by you, Jason. What next? A different genre maybe? Why not!

Thank you, Jane. I've started habitually writing background material for most poems since this one--in this instance, my combined pages germinated into a novel (a very nice surprise). Thank you for your encouraging comments--they mean a lot to me. :... Read More

i face some difficulty to apprehend the depth of the meaning because it seems open to many interpretations.

I think you chose the best path: leave room to the reader interpretation.

Thanks for reading, Aziz. It's open to interpretation; I had my own meaning in mind but I like the idea of the reader seeing what they see. : )

I read this again and again.....and kept on wondering.
Is it about evolution, or oppressed uprising, or invasion of something new?
The rhyme scheme is a delight!

Thank you very much, Kanishka. I actually wrote a page of prose for each verse and based the poem off of that, so there is certainly a much wider layer beneath the surface (I was a tad obsessive perhaps lol.)
It's open to the reader 's interpretation, though, and I'm glad it promotes multiple read throughs.
The rhyme scheme was fun (took a lot of calibration.)
Thank you for reading and for your kind comments. : )
