Countdown

Things are bad at times and they don’t seem to get better until it seems it can’t get any worse.
We pretend everything is going good until we break down unwillingly because we can’t hold it in any longer.
Depression takes hold and we wonder what’s going on in our heads, hormones are raging and causing havoc.
Our lives seem to be upside down. We try and try but we can’t turn it back.
Parents are wondering what happened to their baby. Parents’ friends wonder “where’d the good times go?”
Good times are now drinking and fooling around until it seems there’s nothing left.
Words can’t describe how low we feel after the big high, except empty.
Emptiness fills our systems along with other unmentionable things, we feel dumb.
When really, we’re looking for our special place in the world.
Midnight walks, all-nighters, and social media take up our time.
Adults can’t help but wonder where innocent teens went.
The world changed and we gradually changed too.
Not one person can change the past.
We can change the future though.
A little work and heart.
Will always do wonders.
I’m sure that,
Things change.

Beautifully written and stated, Lexxus. You've described all the pain, confusion, and frustration of being a teenager in this crazy world we live in. But you've also provided some hope for the future, which hopefully your generation can help make a better one.... Thank you! :-)

When I remember how things were, those days, growing up, I can't help wondering how the world has so turned upside down.
Nicely crafted and thought provoking poetics, dear Lexxus Guimond.
