18 years old
Born 1996, F, from Earth, India18 years old
-----------------------------------------
It’s too soon to fulfill your dreams
But the perfect age to start those dreams
It hurts when you fall but It’s the perfect age
to learn how to get back and stand 100 times.
Even the love you thought would last forever
Ends tragically because of huge burden called “college entrance”
Because we are 18 years old,
We could love passionately and
hate passionately as if it was the last day on earth.
We are clumsy, and at age when we get hurt easily.
So, these years seem painful and difficult to bear.
But after withstanding all of that,
I can look back many years later
and say I was truly happy during that time
because of warm hand that was reached for me when I had fallen.
If only one person, no more, no less
Would go up to a friend who is crying
And offer their hand and say this,
Then, there would be no hardship
That we cannot overcome.
“It’s okay, okay to be hurt.
Because, you are only 18”
if you're 18,then withstand the pains,
hold your tears, and stand up again.
----------------------------------------------
thank you for reading.
thank you for all my friends for giving me a hand when i'm down.
thank you for all my family for holding me when i'm hurt.
I'm 18. I'm standing again, and so will you.

06/20/2020Aloha Surekha,
As you can tell from the Comments- you touched a lot of people. Especially those who are close to eighteen -give or take a few years. I am almost seventy, and your words were still relevant to me. Wisdom, it appears, is part of who you are.
To give the youngsters some hope, here is a short History of my eighteenth Year of Life:
I was engaged to my Sweetheart. We had been together since grade school. I started a job that would allow us to get married as soon as I got home from Joining the National Guard and going to Basic Training. I had it all, a True Love, A career, and plans for our first Apartment.
By age 21 things had changed: No job. No Wife.No girlfriend. No apartment. I was out of the Army, unemployed and drifting through life. Fast forward to age 30...I had a wife, a career, and a small apartment. Soon followed by the birth of our beautiful children. My True Love and I have been together forty years. And I have grandkids.
The future does not end at eighteen...or twenty one...or seventy. And you showed that with your poem.
Smiles, Kevin

06/08/2020It seems like everything you said could apply to lots of different ages from kids to young adults. Life is not easy at 18 or any other age. But I think you provided some inspiration for those who are struggling through their late teens, that they can and will get through it. Thanks for sharing your thoughtful words on Storystar, Surekha.

06/08/2020Yes Jd,
It could apply to all the ages. But in the current generation, the young ones are most depressed because of life problems.
So, I thought it would give some motivation to those people.
Thank you for reading and taking time to comment.
