I am Rain
Born 1998, M, from Kolkata, IndiaI roll my tongue out into the cool drizzle,
The bitter zest of acid latches onto my taste buds,
I stand as still as time in a black hole,
My friend, oh rain! Corrode me away into concrete,
For what more is life, but a series of chemical reactions.
I surrender my being to the Gods on the clouds,
They collect prayers and vapours from the sailors and the seas,
And pour them on a burning city; my city,
That spat me away like the cloud spits raindrops,
For what more is rain, but an act of letting go!

10/11/2021Thanks Jane! I haven't read much poetry but if I had to choose on Rabindranath Tagore would be my favorite poet

07/29/2020Excellent work, Kanishka. You've very elegantly boiled down some very deep feelings into a single, compelling moment.
