A Strange Night

A Strange Night

It was a warm autumn night. I was a short and flabby boy, with blue eyes and blonde hair. I was asleep. However, I was awoken by a window being smashed. It was terrifying, as I heard someone come in. I was quick to react and darted to my parents' room. No one was there. I checked my brother’s room. Still, no one. I had no choice but to escape. My body was screaming at me to run downstairs and out the door, but that would bring attention to me. So, I snuck downstairs and heard a clatter of metal in the kitchen. I was petrified.

Why was this person here? What was so valuable in the kitchen?

I made a break for it and ran as fast as a cheetah. I opened the door. He must have heard me and immediately started to chase me. I started to head for the forest. It was awfully close to my house and looked dark and eerie. The worst thing was that I was heading towards it. Before I entered, I caught a glimpse of whoever was chasing me: He was a tall man with black hair and was wearing a mask. He looked as tough as a boulder.

I came to the forest and did not want to enter. But I had no choice. I probed unwillingly. While I was running deeper and deeper into the forest, I could hear the whistling wind and see the trees dancing to the beat of the wind’s music. A sea of leaves being crunched after every step I took. Millions of insects crawling about under the sea of leaves. I could even hear the continuous panting of my own breath, the hooting of the owls probably watching my every move. I had to take a breath. I looked back behind me, but he was nowhere in sight. I looked back in front of me to see a huge dilapidated house with shattered and boarded windows, a decrepit door and the wooden walls rotting.

Who built it? Why had I never seen it before? What led me here?

Whatever it was I decided to seek refuge in the seemingly vacant house. I opened the door and heard a creak as if it had not been opened in years.

I thought I was safe, but who was standing before me? It was the man....
