She sat alone on a tree stump with head down and shoulders slouched. The rain soaked her to the bone. Blue and yellow bruises in the shape of fingers covered her arms. Warm tears fell on cold hands. She had promised to be strong, she had promised to leave. The bottle of poison stuffed in her pocket was a sweet temptation as she reached in and touched it. It felt in that moment like a lover's embrace. The type that brings you to your knees. "Mommy! Can we go now? I'm cold." Her little daughter suddenly broke her trance. She got up slowly and took her baby's hand. As they walked off, her daughter looked behind. "Mommy, you dropped something back there." She ignored her and walked on knowing that one more day had been won.
