A Vile Verse

A Vile Verse

Poison’s sting laced through the verse,

Scripture tossed doth land perverse.

Spitting flowers, not sweet, but terse,

Cause gathered good to soon disperse.

Trumpets herald coming doom,

Freshened air stales in the tomb.

Eardrums split by sonic boom,

All penetrate the peaceful womb.

Unwanted lost becomes ill-found,

Rupturing the stable ground.

From Heaven’s shores to Hades bound,

Here comes the nauseating sound.

Forward march the dogs of war,

Pleasures wear the cloth of chore.

Stagnation is momentum’s whore,

Darkness grows from sun on spore.

Thank you, Aciis! I spend a lot of time arranging and rearranging words until the rhythm and--most importantly--the meaning are right, so thank you for your very kind comments. : )

Clever use of rhyming couplets which is an effective method of illustrating the cynicism portrayed in this piece.
Your use of figures of speech also impressive. 'Stagnation is momentum's whore...' Great personification.
A bleak poem that challenges the reader, containing strong disturbing imagery.
I think this is a brilliant poem. it challenges, the Scriptures, Am I right Jas...

Thank you for your comments, Jane--I love the way you think. The Scriptures were certainly on my mind--especially the way they're so often misused as a pointed stick. In the right hands, those very same verses can serve as guidance and comfort.

This a piece that's saturated by its own contradictions (a damning jibe at damnation itself). You're always so good at picking out specific lines that I've spent the most time on--you have a keen eye. : )
