The candlelight is sickly,
And the Stitcher, he works quickly,
He spits and froths and mutters,
As clock hands carve the time.
The pieces come together,
Arms, legs, torso, all are tethered,
And the head is always tricky,
When it works, though, it’s sublime.
The Stitcher eyes his creature,
Checks off every vital feature,
And he knows that he’ll wreak havoc,
On this night of Hallow’s Eve.
He feels godly in his crafting,
In his complex carnal drafting,
And he pushes his creation,
With one almighty heave.
The beast, it will not waver,
His builder’s scent appears to savor,
And he bellows like a walrus,
As he tears away the Stitcher’s legs.
The monster eyes his maker,
The Giver unworthy of the Taker,
And the sum of parts does not add up,
When subtracting naught but dregs.
The bleeding is tremendous,
The pain is most horrendous,
And the Stitcher screams and sweats,
As he scrambles for his tools.
The creature watches blithely,
The Stitcher’s less than lively,
And he vainly sews and tailors,
Hunched over growing crimson pools.
The night’s not going well,
He’ll soon be ushered into Hell,
At the hands of his own Master Work,
An unnatural, profane crime.
The candlelight is sickly,
And the Stitcher, he works quickly,
But he cannot mend himself,
Nor block the deadly blows of time.

11/29/2020Very strong words and deep meanings. Even the fact of trying some interpretation makes me lost in the countless of possibilities.
Jason is our creative mind and not easy to catch up with his creative ideas.

11/05/2020Oh man. Gods, Jason, that was fantastic. Halloween is my favorite holiday too and even though I just now read this (after Halloween), I think I'm gonna carve my last pumpkin tonight and have my neighbor over for a reading of your poem! :)

11/02/2020Jason,
This is just Fucking Brilliant...sorry for the cursing, but that is exactly the thought that came to my mind on my first reading. My second reading came up with: "He's a genius." My third reading left me speechless...in awe.
Unbelievable. It is that good.
Smiles, Kevin

11/01/2020Hi Jason.
A narrative poem with a Frankenstein feel: a sorcerer who destroys himself through his own ambition. I liked the verse layout and, the rhyming couplets. Jane:)
