Things Are Not Always as They Appear
Born 1954, M, from St Louis Mo, United StatesThe Philippines is a beautiful country, filled by rivers and streams, mountains with breathtaking waterfalls. A country of islands, and filled with native cultures that go back as far as creation. Many well learned men of esteem believe that the garden of Eden was in the heart of the Philippines.
Along with it being a wonderful country filled with both modern and native cultures. There are mystical forests and creatures. Stories of dragons and fairies, unicorns and other creatures thought to be fantasy are told as facts of life.
No family wants to have some curse put on them by the workings of the evil witches that hide behind smiles and pleasant words of greeting. Curses that bring sickness and even dearth, where the magic is as powerful as the voodoo practiced in Africa.
Some says the ways of magic came to it’s peak when the Spaniards took over the lands. They were wild and coarse people. The men raped the women, and the gypsies taught the dark arts.
That may have some gleam of truth yet the natives would tell you from stories passed down, it was the Filipino women that taught Spaniards the art, and no Gypsies could ever see the future or tell a person's fortune like a native.
Where there is such a cultural going back so many years, there are always doubters. Plus, where there is evil magic, there is also good magic. Today I want to tell you about some of those good witches. Though I cannot use actual names, as that would be a violation of my word to the master Wizard.
A baby was born just 14 years ago, to a most beautiful mother. Some would be likely to say she is the source of the magic because even at 40 she has the beauty of a 20 year old. When she sings the wild life and her half dozen cats seems to gather around and purr.
This baby was a magnificent beautiful girl. Her dark complexion was as if she was a cup cream filled coffee, smooth as silk and soft as a down pillow. Even from birth her smile would lighten your heart, and her jet black hair filled the top of her head. Everyone said, is she real or just a doll? People seemed to always reach out to touch her, and sense of peace would flood their soul.
As this girl grew she only became more beautiful. She too was an astounding singer, and when she danced and everyone’s eye’s became glued to her movements as she flowed in perfect harmony. Mi was a daughter any mother would be proud of, excellent grades in school. Creative in art, and leader in all her academics.
So on her 14 birthday, to Mi’s surprise she woke up feeling different. Something had changed, she felt different and that led to her being a bit crabby. She did not feel sick just different.
So when she blew out the candles on her birthday cake, she got her first glimpse as into why. She did what everyone does, she made a wish, a simple wish, that she would get enough pesos to get a phone. Just after the last candle flickered out, her momma said, and your uncle just said he sent you 2000 pesos.
Now maybe you think it was coincidence but she knew it wasn’t. Then when she went to her room, feeling light as air, she had forgotten to close the door. Darn, Mi mumbled, and pointed her finger at the door, just thinking door close and it did!
She sat on her bed, mouth open, then she began moving stuff all around her room. That was not near enough, she thought, let me float. Up in the air she went, just then her door knob moved, she panicked, then though down, down. She crashed to her bed just as momma walked in.
What was all that noise in here, is everything ok, momma asked. She smiled, just moving stuff around, I am not a baby any more. Momma smiled and walked out.
Mi knew she would have to be careful as witches were looked down on and many had lost their heads and now they roam the woods. So she is now careful, and know one knows yet, but Mi knows!
Even today she made her cats fly, and did the dishes just by thinking each step. Now she was on the family deck, making a nice broom. Everyone knew witches used brooms, it was just fitting that way.
Momma watched her, saw the change, but said nothing. She knew, because she remembered the day she had learned she was filled with magic. She remembered her grandma teaching her spells and potions. In a few days she would sit down with Mi and start her lessons, but for now let her have fun and explore.
So if you meet a beautiful Filipino girl, just remember things are not always as they appear.
