In Quiet Night

Stolen moments in moonlit sanctuary,

In Artemis's temple love is sacrificed,

Broken but standing statue in glory laureled,

Like us,

Silent witness to our love's woven tale,

Your eyes reveal an ocean of pain,

Let me drown in them for pity's sake,

Cast me not into the eternal abyss of my fate,

Our love soaring on the wings of Icarus,

Let us embrace one last time,

Before we plummet into the unknown,

The unwanted,

Our souls devoured mercilessly by the sands of time,

As we kneel and gaze at Apollo's chariot,

A new dawn is birthed from night's sweet passions,

Readied with spear and sword,

To pierce our tender love.

I experienced that scenario twice, once as a teenaer and once in my old age. Both times it cut very deep into the my soul. You expressed the pain very eloquently, either because of personal experience, or else because of empathy. Either way, it is a beautifully- expressed poem. Thanks for sharing.
