‘’Ahhh the time has come, the last book reading for your first book.”
‘’Do you think you’ll do any more book readings for this book?’’
“No. I don’t think so. I’ll do many more book signings of course. For my last book reading, I’m going to read my favourite chapter.’’
‘’Which is…?’’
‘’You’ll see.”
Daisy, talks to her two friends, Kate and Diana.
She had retired from her job (school teacher) six months ago and boredom was getting the better of her; which she did not like. She tried doing all sorts of stuff to entertain herself. Her late husband, John, who was two years younger to her, was a professor (psychology). Her daughter, Bloom, who lived with her, was a criminal psychologist and had very tight schedules, so she was barely around.
Consequently, she had the house to herself, on most days. She occupied herself with the television frequently and engaged herself with baking all sorts of treats, which were shared with the neighbours’ kids in the evenings.
She had turned 59 a few weeks ago and wanted to do something worthwhile and fulfilling. So, she had come up with the marvellous idea of writing a book. Since she was a literature teacher, an astute one at that, she had figured that it wouldn’t be stressful and that the journey would be fun and enthralling, in a way. She actually wanted to become a writer when she was in her twenties and wrote drafts and drafts, which were saved, never to be used. The time has come.
‘'So, this is what I want to do. I want to write a book. I’m not starting from scratch though, I’m going to pick some of the drafts and give it meaning, a body, a soul.’’
‘’Wow. So, you have a storyline and everything? What is it about, any idea?’’
‘’Yes, I’ve finalised and chosen one of the drafts, I actually wrote this one when I was 24. I’ll tell you later. But you good with the idea of me writing a book?’’
“Yes.”
Fast forward to a year later, her book, ‘Ecstasy’ getting published with a tremendous amount of support from readers. She went for book readings, book signings, she was recognized quickly, whenever she was outside, people came up to her for pictures etc. It was really thrilling to see all the copies of her book stacked up in stores and being sold, one by one.
‘Ecstasy’ was about two fictional characters, Timmy and Flo, their personal lives, and their journey together. She established these fictional characters, with respect to the people in her life. The happenings that took place in her life, the obstacles she had to deal with, the feelings she went through, were all portrayed in this book. The fact that this book related to her in such a symbolic way was not explicitly stated. She told everyone that the book was mere fiction and that it wasn’t related to her at all, in any way. Everyone except her family and close friends, of course.
Okay so back to the present, Marcy and her friends conversing about her book and her final book reading. Crowds gather into the library and everyone settles down.
‘’I wish your dad was here…I miss John so very much.”
Bloom smiled weakly and wished her mom good luck.
‘’Hello everyone, welcome and thank you for coming!’’
‘’We absolutely adore your book; we’ve read it a thousand times.”
‘’That makes me so happy, thank you so much…. since this is my last book reading session, I’ve decided to read the tenth chapter of this book, as it means so much to me.”
‘’OH MY GOD YES YES YES, I LOVE THIS CHAPTER, YAY.’’
Daisy looks at everyone and smiles.
‘’The chapter is called ‘Purple’ and has a lot of significance to me. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.’’

Ahhh there he was. So handsome. So sweet. There there Flo, don’t get too carried away. I don’t even know the guy.
I shall start from the beginning, my friends, Sharon and Lacey had dragged me out of bed and forced me to attend some show, I don’t even know, don’t ask me, ugh. I didn’t end up going and they got pissed at me and begged me to join them for dinner. Well, dinner was very appealing. I got dressed and went out.
We went to a vegan pub, sat down and started ordering. Just then, this beautiful human being appeared out of no where and sat on the table across us. I was shook. He was drop dead gorgeous. Was he waiting for his friends? Girlfriend? Wife? Calm down, omg, he looks like he’s in his early twenties. So was I. A perfect match. What in the world is wrong with me?
I sat there for a good ten minutes, agape, in awe. Thank god he didn’t abruptly turn or something, I would’ve died. Sharon and Lacey caught me drooling and told me get myself together. They also urged me to ask him out, or at least go over to him. No way in hell. The embarrassment, good god I’m pretty sure he’s in a relationship. I mean, why would he not be in one?
The food is served and we start eating. Not me. I’m busy figuring him out. He didn’t order. He doesn’t seem to be waiting for somebody. Suddenly, he turns around and faces my direction, and I immediately shove the utensils off the table. Yeah. Not just a fork. The whole damn thing.
They fall and don’t stop falling. Oh no oh no he’s looking at me. He saw me. Great. Should I gather all of these utensils now? Oh, this is just fantastic the whole pub has tuned into my mishap. I bend down and pick up the spoons and forks AND tissues while Sharon and Lacey go off. Well, I’m glad you guys are having fun, I say to them, from the floor.
‘Oh yes, omg wait, oh wow he’s coming over’, they exclaim, rapidly. Who? Ugh. At this point the devil himself could come and make fun of me and I wouldn’t mind.
Mind you, I’m still on the floor and I see two very sparkly black shoes in front of me. While I look up, the figure comes down and starts piling up tissues on top of each other and places it on the table. The handsome guy.
He says hi to the girls, looks at me, smirks and casually strides out of the pub.
I’M STILL ON THE BLOODY FLOOR.
I slide onto the seat and place my head on Lacey’s lap. His face. Beautiful but gosh he is stuck up. That smirk was not it. It was nice of him to come and help me, but the way he flapped out of the pub…that was definitely not it.
Should I just stay here? Should I even socialise at this point? I mean, I am an extroverted introvert. So, there are times where I can go off without hesitation. But I need to get help for my awkwardness.
I spot a tiny spoon under the table and I dive under to reach for it. Just guess what happens. The two very sparkly black shoes appear and I am once again, ON THE FLOOR UNDER THE TABLE, shaped like a stupid cocoon. I hold the tiny spoon and clench my fist as handsome guy’s head bobs and is at par with mine.
Both of us look at each other, silently for about two seconds before he shoots back up and converses with the two of them, almost in a whisper. I scramble back up and see that he’s gone. Sigh.
What a shame, I tell the girls. They begin giggling and they place a piece of paper and an ice cream cone on the table.
I grab it and open it. The paper consists of his number, his Instagram handle and the sentence ‘Eat the ice cream…. you need it, lol.’ Well, he’s definitely stuck up and I’m pretty sure he’s full of himself. I tell the girls that I plan on going home, eating the ice cream and throwing the paper away. Yeah right. They persuade and coax me into texting him. I do. They were not happy with my first text to him but whatever.
-Well aren’t you a bit too confident?
-Ahhh it is you, clumsy person.
-Why did you give me your number and everything? Tell me something, do you think I’m one to fall for you and what not? Trust me, I may look dumb but I am not dumb enough to engage with people like you.
-Like me?
-F**k boys.
He was typing out his answer but I went offline. I wanted to go home. Okay, the excitement of texting a hot guy was too much. Sharon and Lacey told me to calm down while they dropped me.
I did. For about a few minutes. I changed back into comfy clothes and hopped into bed, saw that there were a few unread texts and I opened them.
-I’m not one of those people…come on do you think I’m like that?
-Hey where’d you go?
-Come backkk.
-Hey. Just got home. Yes, I do think you are like that. Sweet and charming, but also clever.
-What’s wrong with being clever?
-Nothing. You just use that brain of yours to get with girls, only to dump them.
-Now that is not true. You can’t just label me in a box.
-Prove it then.
-Ok. Date. Next Monday, 7 pm, same place?
-You could just put up an act for me to believe, which I will not.
-No act. Come on.
Back to the vegan pub it was. The “date” was intriguing. At least it was for me. Sitting in front of such an attractive human being really took it out of me. He looked as if he had come out of a renaissance painting, so perfect, so…..did I even tell you his name? It is Timmy. Hot little Timmy.
Anyway, he was really sweet. Cocky too. I still wanted to find out if he was actually in a relationship or something. Turns out that he wasn’t in one and everything was clear. Sharon is one hell of a stalker.
After dinner, we go to a park to sit and talk. We sit on the see-saw and look at each other for a few seconds. I sit in utter confusion and he suddenly, in two quick paces, reaches my side. I plop down onto the ground and wince, as my butt wacked the ground. He kneels down and strokes my lower back with one hand, and slowly kisses me.
‘You like me?’
Ew. Very cheesy.
‘I guess so.’
I am equally cheesy, oh, what have I become.
Fast forward to a few weeks later, I find myself in love and completely smitten. I-

‘’Time’s up time’s up.’’
The manager informed.
‘’Well, I wasn’t able to finish reading this chapter but you guys have an idea of it.’’
‘’I HAVE A QUESTION. IS TIMMY YOUR LATE HUSBAND?’’
‘’What? No no my dear, these characters are a figment of my imagination. Nothing in my book is related to my life.”
‘’Ahhh ok, you know, Flo does have a perfect life, especially when she-“
‘’Now now dear, let us allow the others to find out about Flo’s life by themselves.’’
The eager and chatty little girl beamed and nodded.
Since there were no other questions, the library emptied out and finally it was just Bloom, Daisy and her two friends Diana and Kate.
‘’I cannot believe this, still. I am in a book, a very famous one at that OMG.’’
‘’Well yes of course, and dear Timmy was so handsome, I forgot. Lacey was just a beautiful sight. Still is.’’
Diana chuckled.
‘’Timmy? Oh yes. Don’t you mean Adam?’’
Diana and Kate tease Daisy. Daisy smiles.
‘’I miss him very much. I wish he was here to read my book, he was so excited.’’
Bloom tells her that he was with them, and that he always watched them from above.
‘’I hope so.’’
Daisy, Bloom, Kate and Diana pull each other into a tight hug and smile.
Of course, Adam was with them. He would always be.
