The Final Thread

A single thread
Plied blue and red,
With wisps of gold and green,
Through needle’s eye
Is passed – and I
Watch what I once had been.
This thread a soul
It’s length the whole
Stretch of a person’s life.
Each color twined
Is underlined
As peace or joy or strife.
First knot the thread
Upon the head
Of this loom’s starting nail,
Then under weave
And over leave
A length and then a tale.
Each thread is passed
Over this last
And final thread of all,
They touch and glide
Along beside
Until away they fall.
This little thread
Taking the stead
Of those who’ve passed before,
Living “The End”
Where stories wend
To close forevermore.
Last thread alone,
Your piece is done,
So far the tale has led.
Dear striving heart
You’ve played your part.
