Negative Vibes

“I promise, dear Catherine, one drink and I’ll head home straight away.” These are the words I spoke to my beloved on this night, as so many before, I was to visit the “alley” …the dark side of town where a man goes to satisfy his thirst, whether it be for drink, female companionship, or in my case murder.

How ironic it is Catherine would be sitting at home worrying and praying I not become the next victim of the alley slasher. And, for those thoughts, my dear Catherine, I dedicate this night’s work to you.

It had been less than an hour when I spotted her. A fine figure of a woman standing and staring into the shadows as if searching for something, completely alone and totally unaware of my presence. She wore a veil over her face, but it did not disguise the fear in her heart. She was the perfect victim.

I slipped from the dark recesses of the night and began to move in on my prey. It took but a shadow of an instant for my knife to find its way to her throat. As I raised her veil to watch the life drain from her fearful eyes, it was my life that came to an end, for my eyes did not meet with those of a stranger but with those of my beloved Catherine.
