The Sabbat's Sphere
Apollo’s sun, now hide thou face,

The Huntress lies in wane,

Pious folk begin to flee for home,

For darkness now doth reign

Pan’s fine followers tread their path,

Through the twisted, ancient weald,

Where collective fates are woven true,

And with arcane words are sealed

The clearing lit with firelight,

Girt by ash, birch, beech, and oak,

Robes are shed and flesh is bled,

And offerings made to smoke

Writhing limbs move as one,

An ungainly, heaving beast,

Not unnoticed by the gods,

Of the North, South, West, and East

Bee, moth, and bird begin to swarm,

Bear, wolf, and fox appear,

The fire’s arousal hits its peak,

In the heat of the Sabbat’s Sphere

So mote it be

What a great ode to medieval witching practices ...another very well-written poem! Great rhyming and use of words.

Aloha Jason,

And in a twist of fate, I just published a Flash Fiction story about Magic, and yet you caught the tone I wanted in your poem. I wonder how many reades (of the Non Wican persuasion) no what Sabbats are...or were. And Pan was rightly feared as the difference between pleasure and happiness play out in his orgies.

Smiles, Kevin

Thank you so much for your kind words, Kevin. I just read your magical story and loved it. I have to admit, I'm slightly obsessed with Pan as an entity. I was raised in a biblically religious way but spent more time reading about Wicca than I did the scriptures. : )
