Maggie Donovan watched the advert for her lipstick and sighed in satisfaction. It was a gamble. Her lipstick line was called Night Moves, and featured nothing but different shades of red. She knew she had a good product, but it was so damn satisfying to see her dreams advertised for all to see.
Breaking news followed. Some guy named Colin Burke was declared missing, blah blah blah.
Maggie turned off the tv and sat back in satisfaction. She knew her product was great, and was looking forward to the dollars rolling in. It was hard living forever, no matter how rich you were, the money always ran out sooner or later.
She got up, stretched. Went down to the basement.
“Well, Colin. Seems someone is missing you.” She adjusted the blood flow, and stood back as he snapped and snarled at her.
Maggie collected the blood, and mixed it into the vat of coconut oil, cayenne pepper, and emu oil. Her secret recipe for her Night Moves line of lipstick.
She sliced her wrist and added a few millilitres of her own blood.
All around the world, women were smearing this formula around their mouths. Smelling the blood, tasting the blood.
Deep in her black soul, Maggie felt the stirring all over her city, all over the world! The stirring of her creations, her blackly beautiful children.

10/17/2021Excellent work, Hazel--my Blood Sibling. There's a razor-sharp efficiency to this piece that I love, and as with all excellent short fiction, it feels like the universe you've created stretches on forever. Brilliant. : )

10/15/2021Hazel,
You and Jason are supreme writers...and make ghastly stories that make most of us gasp. I often thought of you and Jason as kindred spirits. Some shared writers DNA in your blood. Having just read your Flash Fiction "Lipstick" Story, and Jason's Short Story...how close your minds are on certain subjects.
In my old Comedy World we called this: Parallel Development. Same theme, differnt style. Yours and Jason are eirily alike, yet profoundly different. Loved it. "Night Moves" is becoming an ear worm in my head, sung to the sound of Saturday Night Fever. LOL
I won't be kissing anyone with red lipstick - ever. LOL
Congrats.
Smiles, Kevin
