The Little Dwarf
Born 2011, F, from Noida/UP, IndiaOnce upon a time, there was a girl named Sarah Lambkins. She was very fanciful. She believed in unicorns and the tooth fairy. She always kept a few cookies beside her bed, hoping that the magical creatures will eat it. The cookies were always gone. However, everybody kept telling her that those things are not real, but she never lost hope. But nowadays she was also losing hope.
“Maybe everybody’s right. It probably was all in my head.” She thought, lying on her bed. It was midnight. Everybody was asleep. Sarah couldn’t sleep. Her sad thoughts kept her awake. “Why was I so stubborn? I should’ve just believed them. I mean, I haven’t ever found a single piece of evidence of magic. How in the world will those things exist if I never found them? I also have a rat problem in my house. The rats could have eaten those cookies!” She thought out loud.
A tear rolled down her cheek. She soon fell asleep. After a while, she heard a sound, coming from the floor. She sat straight up. She looked at her table clock. It read 3:00 am. She grabbed the nearest thing to her, a bat. “Who-who’s there?” she stammered. “Please don’t hit me!” A tinny voice said. Sarah looked down. She saw a little dwarf. She bent down to pick it up. The dwarf took a little bow.
“Hello! I am Lethan The Dwarf. You might be Sarah Lambkins, if I’m not wrong?” the little dwarf said. Sarah was too shocked. “Yes! How did you know?” she said, finally finding her voice. “I saw it hung on your door. It’s a pleasure to meet you!” Lethan said. “Yeah, you too. But why are you in my room?” Sarah asked.
“Well, I come here to collect food for the Dwarf Land. I am the mayor. It’s my responsibility to feed my citizens food, and there are no plants there which grow food, and we don’t want to kill animals for our consumption. So we have been eating those cookies that you leave for us.” Lethan explained.
Sarah smiled. “Well, can I see this dwarf land you’re talking about?” she asked. “Of course! It will be my utmost pleasure!” Lethan told her. “Follow me!” He said. He walked to the carpet, and chanted a mantra.
“Let me in, let me come back, from Sarah’s room to Dwarf Land!” Lethan chanted. Suddenly, a portal opened! “Hop in!” Lethan said. He then jumped in. Sarah followed him. “Wheeeeeeeeeee!” she exclaimed. She landed on something soft. She looked down. Pink cushions!
“Whoa.” Sarah said. She smelled the air. It smelled like cupcakes! She looked all around. Pink glitter was raining! The whole town had a golden glow to it! It was so magical! “This is amazing!” Sarah cried. “I know, right?” Lethan said proudly.
He showed her around and made her meet some of the citizens. After their tour, Lethan asked, “So, how did you like the Dwarf Land?” “It was really magical!” Sarah exclaimed. She checked her watch. It read, 7:30 am.
“Oh no! I got to go! I promise I will come back.” Sarah told Lethan. “Sure! You’re welcome here anytime. Please bring those delicious cookies, too!” Lethan said. “The portal is right over there” Lethan pointed to the entrance gates.
Thanks! It was nice meeting you all! Next time, I will bring loads of cookies!” Sarah called as she jumped in the portal. “This was such a great adventure!” Sarah thought to herself, as she came back in her room. Her mom burst in. “Good morning, sweetie! Did you have a good night’s sleep?” She asked. Sarah smiled and said, “Yeah! The best.”
