Sir Taffy
Curious, playful, dignified, haughty, independent, regal . . . shall I go on to describe the personality traits that cats possess? When I looked at the painting and how the cat was sitting and his eyes were slightly looking upward, it reminded me that cats are also truly patient, especially when it comes to their hunting skills.
They can be loving, if willing to share that particular quality that he or she may display to their owners. May I mention one other trait? Supreme intelligence! Their eyes tell the story and how they measure their human owners’ (this word is taken lightly) capabilities, and how impertinent they are when it comes to human’s feelings.
Sir (nickname) Taffy, a large, white male, with black markings in various parts of his long body, is quite good at training humans, and is expert at having his way with EVERYTHING! He receives treats on-demand, prompts one to open the window blinds, raise the blinds, where he perches on his window shelf to explore the world from inside, and after all of that, he walks away, as satisfied as a spoiled, but loved cat can be. He loves to watch me perform this task! It is like he is saying: “Well done, human, and I can now get on with my morning.” To me, it is incredible!
“’My knowledge of art is extremely limited, but I am fairly certain that the cat in a painting that I viewed, has similar traits as my Taffy. Cats are interesting to watch, especially when they are having their, what I call, “cray-cray moments! “
Allow me to explain. Taffy can move about so quickly, and so athletically, that your eyes cannot even focus on him. This has been occurring quite frequently because of a flooring project in the living area of our house, where the baby grand piano is covered by a huge sheet because of dust, etc. He thinks this is his playground and he can jump, leap, run and slide and nearly fall off without any thought of injury. I must admit, it is very entertaining to watch this spectacle.
Sir is keenly watchful of my daily routine and is very much aware that I am the first human in the household to rise in the morning. As soon as I open my eyes, I feel his stare on me as he is watching and waiting for me to put my feet on the floor. Why? Food! In the mornings, I call him “Mow- Mow,” because he is constantly meowing at me until he receives his priceless food. I realize this is typical of cats, but it still impresses me as to how he has everything stored in his brain as to our comings and goings.
This short story is certainly not written by a professional writer, which is obvious, however, this is my first attempt, and I had to make the effort. Please have mercy on me, and if courageous enough, I might try again?
Thank you if you read this in full.

05/29/2023I enjoyed reading about your cat. They are fasinating to watch and even their arrogence is compelling.
We had a cat when I was growing up . Unfortunately I am now allergic to their fur and so can't buy one.

01/30/2023This is your first story?! Keep it up. Reminds me that it is time to let my neighbor's cat in for his daily spoiling. Just like a grandchild, I can send him home.

12/07/2021Thank you Jason. This was quite a challenge for me since I have never made an attempt at writing. I did try writing music only once for a final exam, and it was not very successful. That is why I wanted to at least try this, so your comments are much appreciated.

12/06/2021Yes Marsha, keep writing and congrats on meeting the painting challenge. (My entry was Blue Boy) I found the limited time to pull an entry together pretty difficult---I like to read, reread, read and reread again--for days. Not this time. Actually, your tale inspired me. We had a cat named Tipper who survived Hurricane Sandy, alone in our house while we were away. Story worthy, don't you think?
Anyway, I know a couple of cat lovers who will appreciate your work and will send the link for them to enjoy your tale. Take good care, Jerry

12/06/2021Thank you so much for the encouraging words, Jerry. I want to keep writing, and hope to again, soon. That is so amazing about Tipper surviving during Hurricane Sandy. Please write your story and I look forward to reading it and Blue Boy.
Thank you again, and stay safe and well!

11/30/2021Your Taffy looks positively regal posed in your pic. But you mentioned a painting in your story, so we'll definitely need to get a look at it if you intended this story for the Writing Challenge? I'm a big cat lover myself, and each one I've ever loved is different and unique unto itself. Thanks for sharing your true life story about your cat. You did great for your first effort.
