Quest for Quincy
Born 1973, M, from Ocoee, Florida, United StatesQuincy was lost, lost within himself, the himself he'd created. A facade of a fantastical fable of a character. Larger than life living more lavish than most. Quincy was the host of boast, fooling the masses on social media creating a following of followers. Shepard to the sheep, an influence over the influential he led them to a watering hole by the nose. Wide open were their nasal passages, sucking up all the content he splashed onto their platforms. Products were purchased, personalities were elevated and most importantly a lot of money was made. Quoted was Quincy as he conquered currency and controlled consumers' consciousnesses. Content of contempt to rile those easy to anger. Hatred hastens haplessness, blinding the believer to his or her deceiver. Deception is in the perception of narratives created by the cunning to capitalize on contempt. Negative thoughts are supported, reinforced and even escalated to erupt.
No money like mad money and there's no fool like an angry fool. Words were few, it was all about the images; gotta get those angles right. Filters flatter and flatten formative thinking. No one can live up to the image that is thrust upon them. The App is hurting them yet they hunt for no healing. Addicted to their tormentor, Quincy's fans fawned over his folly. Achieve all that he wanted did Quincy yet he was no more happy than any of his subjects or subscribers. Harum-scarum was he with his hash tags and hate speech towards whatever target that gained him the most attention. No morals, values or cause, only the lust for fame and wealth resided in Quincy's cold heart. There was an ice box where his heart used to be because there was no warmth of love there. No one loved Quincy; he never allowed them to. Quincy was still on a quest to learn how to love himself... his true self, not the false, virtual avatar of himself he'd created.

01/05/2022Cam,
I hope you submit this to as many magazines, podcasts, and spoken word platforms as you can...it is so full of insight, understanding and ideas to ponder. It reminded me of something I read by Langston Hughes way back when I was kid. I first read his Collected Poems - and they are mostly short but pack the same punch as your Essay. Then I read : "The Ways of White Folks." And like your Essay, it made things clearer to me.
I hope you find someone to Publish your essay and that you get it read in every Church in America. It is simply rife with pearls.
Smiles, Kevin

01/06/2022Thank you so much for that deep and encouraging insight on my writing. For you to mention anything I write in the same sentence as Langston Hughes is truly an honor. Kevin, brother I love your contribution and you inspire me to become a greater participant in this awesome community of writers. I finally have a free day and I think I will spend a good portion of it reading some of my favorite Kevin Hughes stores. I appreciate you greatly friend.
