Will Love Prevail?
Born 1955, M, from Norwich NY, United StatesWill Love Prevail?
By Herm Sherwood-Sitts
Last summer my grandson and I took Maybellene (Our 77 Corvette) to a car show. On our end we sat with our 210 horse powered, standard 4 speed, 44 year old beauty. At the other end sat the brand new model, a 715 horse powered, automatic 8 speed, mid engine rocket. Technology has sure come a long way. But has technology been all good?
Stuck to his phone he notices no one. Sitting on a bus stop bench with a beautiful, intelligent girl beside him, a young man visits his dating app, oblivious to her. (Just a scenario of everyday life.) Have we lost the art of eye contact or human touch? Less people are getting married these days. Is it because they want to have it all without answering to someone else’s feelings? Have we become as cold as the machines technology has given us?
Meantime, through social media we have become a country with crooked politicians that pit us against each other by race, religion, ethnics, age, financial status and now by vaccination. I wonder if in the future people will choose a partner by vaccinated or pure blood status. Will the results of being one or the other become a factor because of the side effects? For my grandchildren’s grandchildren… I can only hope love will prevail and they will look into the eyes of someone and fall in love. No matter what differences they have.

09/30/2022My husband said when cellphones came out they would ruin this world and he was right in a ot of ways. Small talkamong strangers is lost! Such a shame.

01/08/2022A tale of the future, or now? Makes us wonder. What will become of the Human race? Will we die out or find another way. Hopefully a peaceful way. Congratulations on this short story.

01/04/2022Herm, nice challenge entry. Several thoughtful and disturbing possibilities. Keep an eye out for my "Adventures in Spanglish" that will partially speak to the phenomenon of mutual attraction. Take care, Jerry

01/04/2022There's definitely a lot of food for thought in your speculative story, Herm. Seems like technology and social media has in many ways devolved us rather than moving us forward as a human race. I HOPE that in the end, love prevails.

That being said I don't think we're going to enjoy the ride to breakthrough the other side.
