My story begins in a deep dark abyss. I'm stuck down in a corner crevasse. It's hard to move. What's that? I see light. I must gravitate towards the light. It must be a way out. Humph, whoa, ugg, almost there.....weeeeee! I'm falling. I land. Bump, Thunk! Ouch that didn't feel good. My head spins and I land on my tail.
Looking up I see lots of feet coming and going in all directions. “Hey, watch out! I'm down here! Careful dude you just kicked my side! Don't step on me!”
Mommy, what's that?” I hear a sweet little voice squeal.
“It's nothing, just a penny.” her mommy says.
“It's pretty and shiny. Can I have it mommy?”
“Yes Ava, you can have it.”
The little girl picked me up, brushed me off and slid me in her little pink jeweled purse. Ahhhh it's so warm and cozy in here. In seconds I drift off to sleep.
When Ava and her mommy get home, she takes me out of her purse, cups me in her warm little hands and runs with me into the bathroom. She then throws something on the floor and carefully lays me on top of it. It's so soft I sink a little. Next she grabs her mommy's spray bottle filled with water and sits down on the floor beside me. She begins showering me with water and gently drying me off. It tickles.
“Ava, Ava darling where are you?”
“Here mommy, bathroom. Me and Penny in the bathroom.”
Her mommy opens the door and sees us sitting on the floor.
“Ava honey, what are you doing?”
“Mommy, I make Penny all pretty.”
“Come here sweetheart. I will help you dry off your penny and you can help mommy with supper. Daddy will be home soon.”
“Daddy, Daddy!”
Ava takes me and puts me on the table and says, “sit here Penny.”
I sit and wait for her.
“Vrooom! Vrooom! I look to see an older person run into the kitchen holding something in his hand.
“Tommy stop running in the house!” his mommy orders.
“Vrooom! Vrooom! He runs past his mommy and quickly grabs me and throws me in the back of something little but bigger than me.
Oh that hurts. I'm sliding all over, hitting my sides, my head and my face. It hurts so bad.
“Ava help me!! I cry.
“Penny! Penny! Give me Penny! Mommy!” I hear Ava cry. I don't like Ava to cry.
She runs after me as fast as she can.
“Here I am Ava!”
I hear her mommy holler. “Give your sister back her penny Tommy. Right this instant!”
Tommy runs and slips. He falls down. I fly through the air landing on my edge and roll under something long and big. I don't like it under here. It's dark and scary.
“Ava please come get me. I'm afraid! Hurry Ava!”
“Penny!” I hear her call my name. “Where are you?”
“I'm hear Ava!”
Before she can get to me, Tommy lies down on the floor. He reaches out for me and grabs me with cold sticky fingers. Yucky, I don't like that. He throws me back in his toy thing and runs with me again. “Vrooom! Vrooom!”
He runs into Ava's room and shoves me through a little slit on top of something hard and cold. I quickly tumble downward. 'Clink, Clink, Clang. Plop.'
“Hey man, get off me!” You just knocked me in the face.” “Slide over dude.” “Stop pushing.” I was hearing so much chatter it was making my tail hurt.
“Whoa, where am I?”
“First tell us who YOU are.” A gruff voice demands. “Who dropped you in here?”
“The little girl calls me Penny. I've been with her until her brother Tommy took me and dropped me in here. Wherever 'here' is.”
“You're in a 'piggy bank', he says. That's what the girl's mommy calls it. The little one put us in here. We don't know why. Some of us look like you. Others of us are grey. Some are bigger and some are smaller. But we are all in here together. So welcome Penny.”
“No offense but I don't want to be in here. I want to be with Ava.”
“Who's Ava?”
“She's the little girl. That's her name and I want to be with her. I miss her very much. How do I get out of here?”
“You don't. Not unless they want you out. We have been in here a very long time.”
“No! I want Ava! AVA! AVA!”
“Hang on! Here we go again!” Another voice yells.
“What's happening? I'm getting dizzy.”
“Someone is shaking us again.” The gruff voice utters.
“Penny, are you in there?” I hear that sweet little voice I love so much.
“Ava, is that you? I'm in here! Get me out!”
The 'piggy bank' is turned upside down and shook until one by one we all fall on the bed.
“Penny, there you are!”
Ava carefully picks me up and lovingly holds me against her warm cheek. She softly caresses me.
Then one by one she plops all of my newly found friends back in their temporary home. Maybe they will get out soon. “Bye Penny.” They call as they disappear out of sight.
“Bye friends, hope to see you all again soon.”
Ava has never let me out of her sight. She takes me outside to play, I sit next to her plate while she eats. She takes me in the bathtub with her. I sit on her lap when she watches cartoons. We both laugh together. Everywhere she goes I am with her. But most importantly and the best ever is I lie beside her on her pillow as she sleeps. EVERY NIGHT!
She is my Ava.
I am her Penny.
