IF I HAD WAITED...
If you have looked through life and see the pain and the joys there, you do want to appreciate everything and everyone. You do wish you had the last words from the people you had claimed that you loved before they had left you. You would have been willing to say goodbye. This is my story and pain and of my joy. My name is Okechukwu Chidoluo Vitus, and I live in Onitsha.

I loved my uncle, Mr. Bernard with my heart as I would love my miji god. He is a rare gem, he is a special being.

I can still remember cthe day he took me to the university of Nigeria Nsukka, and start my life through Nwafor Orizu College of Education Nsugbe. I was just back from Mmaku, a town in Enugu State. I had just gone there to collect my results. I had failed woefly but here is an uncle who loved me so much. He took me to the college the next day. And the same day, I was made a student. I had asked if God is not wonderful. Yes, God is wonderful.

I was happy 2011, when Good luck, became the president of this nation. My heart is filled with hope and joy. I didn't know I would not say goodbye to the man who loved me, as that night, the rioters at Funtua rioted and killed him.

I was in the class when, I was called and informed that my uncle is dead. At his return, he looked like another person. The fire turned him to charcoal. I lost it. I cried as I would not cry before. How can one live with a murderer who has not yet been purnished, and would not be. Such was the faith of all who lived in the north of the country Nigeria. There were tears as the burial came and the food was good and I can see people eating and behaving like pigs and swine's. It was a terrific situation. You do cry and would not cry again. You wanted to stop crying but you can't stop yourself. It feels so bad that you can't help yourself.

That evening, I decided to go to my father's house, when I met another of my father friend sleeping by the side of the house. He was not drunk but I know I am too busy to go and chat. I came back from school on Sunday and was told that the same man has died and was buried. How I wished I had stopped and said a word that looked like I know they were about to go? My heart would not be burdened as someone who has been assignment, who left it to the winds. You do remember the job as long as you live.
