An occasion when I faced rejection
Born 1989, M, from Mirpur Khas/ Sindh, PakistanAn Occasion When I Faced Rejection
The story is about two different versions of the same episode.
I am Amjad Hussain from Pakistan, originally belonging to a rural, backward area of province Sindh, when I was a child, at the age of 12, I completed primary school education and was preparing to go to elementary school for more study, my parents did not want me to go there instead, they had another plan. they wanted me to be a Hafiz-e-Quran (Traditionally, Muslims memorize the divine scripture “QURAN” by heart and mind as a good religious’ act and sustain that forever). though My parents were truly religious persons. I had no other choice but to anyhow rely on my parent’s wish, I was in the race with other candidates to complete the Quran memorization, which usually takes 3 to 5 years depending on your memorization power. by the way after two and half year’s continuous race, I was in the 2nd position to complete the Quran but all of sudden, an unexpected incident happened to me, a time when I realized my parents were right but unfortunately I have to leave from there without completing the Holy Quran. And you can expect I wondered here and there purposelessly, wasted one more precious year of life.
My parents were angry with me for leaving Quranic learning undone, and sadly they had no regard for me, I was nothing to them, my value compared to other siblings was zero. By the time I was entering the age of adolescence, I got a sense of repentance, why not continue from where I left, so decided to get admission to the nearest elementary and secondary school. But for that, I had to seek permission from my father, who did not want to see my face. Hence, I conveyed a message to my father from a reliable source to get me permission for studying at school. In the first response, my father denied the person saying that “my son is an irresponsible and deprived child, he has become a reckless person and cannot complete his studies, he will cheat me again and leave his studies uncompleted, so I am not interested investing my money and his time”. On the other hand, I was very much curious and eager to continue my academic studies. Therefore, could not hold myself longer, a few days passed, and once again I conveyed another message to my father this time with strong wishes and clear intentions to resume my studies. That was a pleasant moment for me as my father accepted my proposal and somehow showed his conviction. (A time when my father realized I am right) And the next day, I was at school and continued my study from class 6, where I completed secondary school education, and then went to college for higher secondary education, gradually, things started to get better and better with time, and I succeeded in binding strong relations with my family and father. On the other hand, I completed my higher secondary education, and soon entered a professional career, after qualifying recruitment test, appointed as a teacher at Primary School. Luckily my first place of posting was the same school where I completed primary education years ago. (that was a proud moment for me)
While I was in service, I continued my education through distance learning and achieved a master’s degree in Teacher education without physically appearing in any university.
Yet, it had been 4 years of my service as a Primary School Teacher when the government announced 5000 vacancies for Junior elementary school teachers, I was once again curious to apply for that job and I, not only decided but applied and prepared well for that position in the same department, qualified test and interview, and this time, I was appointed as a Junior Elementary school teacher and by chance posted at same high school where I studied and obtained secondary school certificate. (This is the mode of two different versions of the same episode)
At the moment, I am serving here, and my age has reached 30 years. I am a Sindhi native speaker and writer; English is my 3rd language. With teaching, I do research and keep an interest in writing on many social, religious, and political issues in local as well as the English language.
So, the moral of the story is that difficult roads often lead to a beautiful destination.
